Here we go. Big series. If we can just take 1 game, we'll be fine at the break I think. Anything more than that and we're just about even with them or maybe ahead with a sweep.

Perhaps just as important or more important than the standings, Kid Kelly returns tonight. We really need him to fill out the rotation. Let's hope he stays healthy and continues his incredible ability to get out of jams while keeping the score low.

I think they have rushed Joe back when he probably needed another rehab start or two. Having said that, a sweep puts the Birds in first at the break. Didn't the Phillies just sweep those guys?

I'm slightly worried about that too, but my guess is they figured it was just one game before the break, and they could limit him tonight.  They probably only did this because we're playing Milwaukee; it's definitely a sign that we're trying to win games in this series rather than just surviving until the break.

I believe it was stated earlier that Greenwood would be piggybacking Kelly. With Wainwright going tomorrow, it can be "all hands on deck" tonight as the only one unavailable would be Lyons... and he was sent down to make room for Kelly.

Hey?  Whats happened to Pugs lately?  Is he in attendance at County Stadium tonight?

I am going to tune in to this one.  After i get some trimming done with the push mower i am going to shower and then have me a roast beef sandwich, baked potato, Mt Dew, some homemade ice cream for dessert, and then a cigar.  Then after the Cardinals game it will be time for Barnaby Jones and another cigar.

What an exciting life us Cardinal batchelors live, eh?

Lineup: Carpenter, Wong, Holliday, Adams, Peralta, Craig, Jay, Cruz, Kelly. Oscar sits again.

I like the idea of using Wong at 2 and suggested it last night. I think it might even be a good idea with OT in the lineup, as we could use Oscar in the middle somewhere for an RBI bat. The problem here is the 6-8 guys aren't reliable to get the ball in the air when we have runners on base, so I'd like to see OT in there at 5 or 6 so that we are strong 1-6 instead of 1-5 as in this lineup.

I  can't understand what Taveras is even doing up with the team.  They'll never find out if he can add the offense they need if he's sitting on the bench.  He should be playing EVERY day.  I've about had it with Matheny.  I used to defend him but not anymore.

Re: 2014 MLB game #94: Cards at Brewers: Fri 7/11

A few things on the lineup today.

1. I don't like the idea of moving Wong up in the lineup. He's hit pretty well toward the bottom of the order and that might be where he feels a little more comfortable. I know Holliday isn't hitting and wasn't in the third spot, but I think he fits better hitting second, especially with his bat control. His power is down, but he can shoot the ball to right field, which is ideal if Carpenter is setting the table the way he has lately. it opens up hit-and-runs and the potential to possibly get a guy on third with less than two-outs if Carp keeps smacking doubles.

2. Oscar needs to be in this lineup. It's getting old doing this part time thing. He's a young guy trying to adjust to the big leagues. He needs a routine, which means he needs an idea on when he's going to play, what pitchers he needs to prepare for and, to go with my comment above, where he'll slot into the lineup.

3. I know some will think I'm crazy for saying this, but I'd kind of like to see Bourjos get another look in CF over Jay. Jay has cooled off considerably and Bourjos still has that X-factor capability. The guy has some pop in his bat and that speed is hard to match. I'm not saying slot him as an everyday guy, but give him a look. Jay and Craig have not made him an easy after-thought.

Any other time I would be unhappy with Craig playing over Taveras at this point but Craig has a history of crushing the Brewers. Especially at Miller Park. If there were ever a time and team for Craig to get going against it would be here in Milwaukee.

We need guys like Craig and Holliday to step up and take up the slack with Yadi out.

I hope Joltin Joe is efficient so he can go pretty deep.  Don't have a lot of faith in Greenwood.  But who knows.

Kelly needed another rehab start. He'll be lucky to go past 2 innings tonight.

Two run double.  I guess Cruz called for a fat one right in his wheelhouse.  Kid has a lot to learn.

The Cardinals pitchers must have some sort of trouble understanding the value of getting ahead in the count. Either that or Lilli needs to stress it a little more. So many of the issues the younger guys are having, Martinez, Rosenthal, now Kelly, is the value of an 0-1 count.
