Wacha MRI Monday, Garcia surgery

IMO this is what might put us in the running for a starter.

Could we get Price?  And I still wish we'd been willing to give Lohse that 3-year deal.

The team is struggling to score runs and folks want the Cards to give up talent for more pitching.

I am really glad the Cards did not sign Lohse, used the money elsewhere, gave Joe Kelly a chance in the rotation and drafted a potential future star in Rob Kaminsky as compensation.

Quick, precise, and right on point. Agree with Brian.

On the subject of starting pitchers, an item that keeps getting back burnered by the injuries is Shelby's prolonged mediocrity.  He's gone from a potentially dominant front of rotation guy to 4+ ERA .500 pitcher who allows too many base runners. No real sign of any kind of turn around in the downward trend.

MRI on the shoulder or the scapula?

Re: Wacha MRI Monday

I was okay either way with Lohse. Right now it seems we might be better off had we signed him - give a kid pitcher a little more time to develop without the pressure of being in the bigs. But maybe a year from now that is not the case.

Course a year from now he'd be on his last year of the deal anyway.

It seems Jaime Garcia will have surgery and it is out for the rest of the year.

When Chris Carpenter was injured was it just in his head? This whole stance against Garcia is pretty classless and not really fair for someone who has been injured and worked very hard to get back multiple times.

On his arm. This is a guy who may or may not ever last a full season in the major leagues again. Wasted contract.

Looks like Mo is pissed because Garcia seemed to make the decision without telling him about it. Not sure what other options there are for the nerve issue.

Re: Wacha MRI Monday

St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha (scapula) will have an MRI Monday, July 7, to determine if his scapula has healed. He has been going through shoulder strengthening exercises and increasing his calcium and vitamin D intake. "It feels a lot stronger, it's not as tight as it was," Wacha said. "I think we'll have some positive results"

Fantasy Tip: If the injury has healed, Wacha could be cleared to begin throwing. If all goes well, he could begin a rehab assignment in around three weeks.

Since when is considering surgery the same as having surgery?

Garcia, when talking with reporters, did not commit to surgery, but a frustrated Mozeliak made it clear that is now the intended route, even though the team felt there might be other options to pursue first.

"From a medical staff, we felt like there were some other options he could consider before taking this step," Mozeliak said. "Obviously, again, he chose to go down this path."

The surgery will effectively end Garcia's season after seven starts. It will be the fourth time Garcia has had surgery during his career.
