Joe Kelly could make me feel real comfortable with 5 solid innings today. Perhaps the Redbird OF can supply him with some good run support as well.

Four players on the Springfield DL: prospect outfielder James Ramsey, outfielder Rafael Ortega and infielders Jacob Wilson and Greg Miclat.

All important pieces too. CF/CF/SS/2B I hope Cody Stanley is taking it easy! Ha

Diaz also got pulled from the game yesterday:

Prospect shortstop Aledmys Diaz may miss more time from the Double-A Springfield Cardinals after being lifted from a game Monday night at Hammons Field.

Diaz experienced soreness in his right shoulder, said manager Mike Shildt said. Diaz will travel to St. Louis on Tuesday to be re-evaluated.

A team who lost some of their better arms recently in Gonzales, Donofrio, and Blair. Really not much left even at all worthy to discuss on that roster now that Diaz is back shelved. I wrote in one of my latest Springfield Notebooks in order for this team to compete with the Drillers and Travelers atop the TL North they need health as a key for the second half. So far not good and consistency for the Double-A Birds remains as still the top subject this season.

There are actually five S-Cards on the DL, including Jordan Swagerty, who I imagine will not be back this season.

For subscribers, I wrote about Diaz and Ortega, along with over a dozen others, in yesterday's home page story.

Realistically, do you think Swagerty will be back at all?

If I had to put money on it, no.

Re: Minor league thread: Tue 7/1

This system had some shining performances and rather not so much outings on Tuesday.

Memphis lost 8-5. The good is Kolten Wong homered in his first rehab game, Randal Grichuk experienced a bombing act with his 13th blast of the season, and Joe Kelly tossed four shutout innings. The bad Zach Petrick was annihilated for eight earned runs in 1 1/3 inning. Springfield had a scheduled off-day. PB took the win over a horrid Jupiter team. Mason Katz drilled a home run in his debut. Peoria lost 6-1. Chris Perry continues to excel with four strikeouts in two scoreless innings. State College lost to former affiliate Batavia 6-4. Rowan Wick singled and scored twice. Johnson City got a big win going away with a 7-4 score. The GCL Cardinals won early 2-0. Ronnie Williams now one of the more intriguing combos of athleticism and present arm strength in the system threw three scoreless frames in his second start of his pro career. DSL lost 5-1.

A big event in the International signing period starts tomorrow and regarding that topic here are a couple informative articles:

Wow Katz was promoted? I know he was hitting with power but he was also at like .211 for the year in Peoria.
