MLB off-day thread - Mon 6/30 - Taveras-Rondon

You know the drill. An open thread sits here, waiting for any off-day subject not worthy of its own discussion.

Brian,
When is Kelly slated to go again in Memphis?  I might drive down to see him throw.

Kelly is not currently listed among the starters for the four-game series at Nashville that starts tonight.

Rob Rains is suggesting that Taveras could be called up for Tuesday with a pitcher sent down.

As I said in another thread, the only hope for this offense right now, minus a trade, is Taveras.  He didn't do much his first time around but now that he's got his feet wet maybe he can energize the club a little.

I keep thinking that our hitters are going to finally catch fire.  Been waiting over half the year though so who knows.

When is Wong due back off the DL?

Bringing Taveras is a good start...dropping the 13th pitcher another good step. Maybe one of these days they will cut Robinson and Descalso. Loyalty is good up to a point. I know it won't happen but that bench is brutal.

Hopefully today is a day of changes. There was no post game yesterday, Matheny never showed up. Mo gave an interview today laying some things out. Changes need to be made and people need to start being responsible for their performance.

The Dominican Republic Prospect League has tweeted that Taveras is being promoted.

Update: The Cards later confirmed the report in a press release. Rondon down.

Makes sense since it's exactly 20 days since he was sent down and July 1st will be day 20.

He could have came up when Wong went on the DL though.

Could not have said it better myself. People need to be held accountable starting right now.  Moz for his horrible off season. Matheny for his numerous bone headed ideas and mostly the players for their emotionless and totally uninspired play. Honestly if something is not done soon this season will be lost. I think we all know they have not fielded the best team they can all season and telling the fans they are doing the best they can is starting to wear very thin. The Jig is up. When the best hitter you have on the bench is a starting pitcher then something is seriously wrong. I am sure Matheny doesn't want to embarrass anyone but i would let Wainwright hit in some situations. He couldn't possibly be any worse than Robinson or Descalso. Mozeliak has two choices now. Attempt to get some players in here or pack it in for the year and become sellers at the deadline. We are standing at the cross roads right now folks.

GO CARDS!

FWIW, the Cards have never made the post-season four years in a row. They've made it three in a row four times: 1942-44, 2000-02, 2004-06 and 2011-13.

Sounding like a broken record I know I am but until they release or send down Robinson and Descalso I won't take thme seriously.

I have fought this idea all along, at least about Descalso b/c i think he brings things that cannot be measured on a stat sheet. However i can no longer defend his spot on this team. His numbers are so bad at this point your average fan has to be looking at his line and thinking "what the heck is going on here. I believe since the start of 2013 D-Day is the worst hitter in all of baseball and his defense is tragic. He and Shane would be a welcome addition in Memphis though. They have to pay Ellis regardless so a release makes no sense. I would try and move him for a reliever, a prospect or a case of seeds. These guys are not part of the solution but rather a big part of the problem.

Just saw on Mlbnetwork on the ticker that there's a tweet going around on a possible 3 way deal Jason Castro, Hector Santiago, Peter Bourjois

 Suggested U. of Illinois mascots

Whaaaaaaat? Oh please tell me it is Castro we are getting. Why would Houston do that? Has to be more to it.

I read that as Castro for either Santiago or Bourjos. They also have Bourjos playing for LAA still. Says Astros leaked it to Deadspin though so it could be a hoax.

Edit: I read it wrong, it does say a three way trade.

WONG HAS BRUISED SHOULDER

Cardinals infielder Kolten Wong was prescribed inactivity for several days after receiving an anti-inflammatory injection in his left shoulder. An MRI had shown swelling and irritation within the shoulder and what a team official described as a bruise near the cuff. Wong injured the shoulder earlier this month and attempted to play through the soreness but eventually surrendered to it because he couldn’t complete his swings. Matheny said the MRI did not show any structural damage beyond the bruising. The Cardinals intend to re-evaluate his status when they return from this road trip.

Sounds like they will look into Wong after the road trip.

Man, what a great stretch that 2000-2006 time frame was. In the post season 5 out of 6 seasons, with two World Series and capping it off with a championship.

I think my only two major complaints during that time were the Mulder/Haren-Barton-Calero trade, and not drafting Rick Porcello when we had the chance (that was in 2007).
