Re: 2014 MLB game #85: Cards at Giants: Tue 7/1

We got a break last night when the Padres down the Reds by the score of 1-0.  Padres got one hit and won the ballgame.  I bet that doesnt happen too often.  I watched the first four innings before i had to hit the hay.

Just hope this series doesnt see the resurgence of the Giants at our expense.  Would be nice to win two of three in San Francisco.

Not released yet. Usually doesn't come out until 3:30 on St. Louis time games but with the scheduled time being a west coast start time it won't come out until around 6:30 CT.

I have zero confidence in this team..  Cant win at home, cant win on the road.  Cant score runs..
This is easily the most frustrating Cards team I can remember in the last decade.

Considering that in the decade from 2004-2013, we failed to make postseason only three times, and finished below .500 once, the bar is set pretty high.

Mags?  Didn't you read it?  Descalso is in the lineup.  Why would you like someone that cant hit and cant field?

But on a good note, the Brewers have already lost.  Toronto wins over Milwaukee this afternoon 4-1.

With Wong out what other option do we have, other than Ellis?  Even if we'd move Carpenter back to 2ndbase, who could play 3rd?  Craig perhaps, with Taveras in RF?

That might be an option......

Not saying much but Ellis can at least play defense.

They have been frustrating to watch on offense, and Matheny can be hard to watch when making late inning bullpen decisions.

However, they are 5 games over .500. So they are actually winning more than losing - 6 over at home, 1 under on the road.

Still, with the thin pitching right now I can see us on the verge of free falling down the standings. But I always hedge my predictions because I've seen enough baseball teams that do exactly the opposite of what you would think, so maybe these guys will hang tough.

Lets try a Cardinals/Giants team, shall we?

C-Roger Bresnahan (and you thought I would go with Matheny biggrin)
1b-Will Clark
2b-Rogers Hornsby
SS-Al Dark
3b-Frank Frisch (got both the Flash and the Rajah in with that one)
lf-Orlando Cepeda (hate to put the Baby Bull in the outfield, although the Giants played him there a lot in his younger days)
cf-Willie McGee
rf-Bobby Bonds (a bust for us in his one season as a Redbird)
p-Toothpick Sam Jones
p-Ray Sadecki
p-Matt Morris
rp-Lindy McDaniel
rp-Frank Linzy (as I recall, Linzy had that straight-leg delivery sort of like Bronson Arroyo)

Have a little faith Rat. Both of our .300 are in the lineup w/OT in LF giving MH a break. D2 will do fine. For one game, at any rate, the vets get a break from expectations with Oscar in the lineup. I predict this lineup scores more runs than they left in LA.

If Taveras has any sort of an arm he should get some reps in CF. Jay and Bourjos throw like grandmas. At this point, who really cares if he profiles there or not. This team is sleepwalking and Mike is just not the sort who is going to be able to slap the paddles on it and give it a jolt. What we need is a guy who's ticked off, with a chip on his shoulder, fighting for his baseball life and looking to go out there and rip somebody a new one. I have no idea if OT can be that guy.

I can't get used to Tim without the hair.

Lead-off walk to Carp. Lets see if OT is a man or a mouse.

Why would you put him in centerfield, Cards already have a centerfielder who can't hit (bourjos) and one that is average defensively, (Jay).
