Havent the Phillies been on a roll lately?  If so it might be hard to take 3 of 4 in this series.

Plus after this weekend we head out west to face the Rockies, Dodgers, and Giants.  A tough west coast trip coming up, we need to pick it up a notch or two.

I probably overdue the L-R thing in batting orders, as I really like doing that when you can. I think a fairly natural lineup using these guys would be this:

Jay
Peralta
Carpenter
Holliday
Adams
Craig
Molina
Wong
Miller

Okay, here we go. A Cardinals/Phillies team. This team is pretty good. And if Pugs has his way, we'll bump Polanco out of the lineup to make room for Chase Utley.

c-Tim McCarver
1b-Bill White
2b-Placido Polanco
ss-Dick Groat
3b-Scott Rolen
lf-Richie Allen
cf-Bake McBride
rf-Del Ennis
lhp-Steve Carlton
rhp-Grover Cleveland Alexander

Any love for Lonnie Smith or Rickey Bottalico on this squad?

Lonnie Smith could easily be there in left field. I squeezed Allen in so that we could have Bill White's bat and glove at first. Allen played one full season of left field for the Phillies, and played there now and then in other seasons. He even played a little left field in his one season in St. Louis.

We could put in the DH rule and have Allen as the DH, and Skates in left.

Did not even think of Bottalico, but with a ringing name like that we should put him on our squad as a bullpen guy.

You should do this for every series to see if we can make up a full competitive team of player that played wtih both teams.

This team could have a pretty good rotation too if you added John Denny, Rick Wise, Bud Smith and Jose Deleon . These teams seem to have had their share of common players over the years.

That;'s a darn good rotation all right, CNH. With Carlton and Alexander at the top, this team would not lose many games.

I put a combo team together in the thread for the first game of a lot of series, scadder. Not always though - its sort of a hit-or-miss where if I have a bunch of guys names running through my head that were on both teams I'll throw it out there.

Sure - Chuck Klein comes quickly to mind.  Johnny Callison.  Richie Allen.  Granny Hamner.  Richie Ashburn.  Plenty of them.
