Sure would be nice to take this one and guarantee a series win.  If Shelby can repeat his last performance we might be in business.  A win today and there's a good chance at a series sweep.  Strasburg is always tough so it could be another low scoring game.

I am calling this one 3-1 Cardinals with Allen Craig getting off the schneid with a ringer tater to left.

I like your optimism, Rat, but one of these days (like most Cards fans) i'd like to see more than three runs.  A lot more.

Man, our offense has been bad lately. We needed another shutout to win yesterday, which puts us at 9-20 in games in which we've scored 3 runs or less (that's 43% of our games, and we're winning about 30% of those). Stras has been kind of like Wacha in that he usually seems to pitch well, but doesn't have as many wins as he probably should.

We can't expect to win many games scoring 3 or less, so hopefully we get some decent offense today.

Last five games we've scored only 15 runs - 3 per game.

But we've only allowed six (1.2 per game) and all six came in that second game in Tampa.

35 wins in 67 games works out to 85 wins.  A bit low.  But 14 shutouts in those same 67 games works out to 34 shutouts on the season, which is pretty amazing - the 1968 Cards, by comparison, threw 27 shutouts.

I'm going with Peralta to catch hold of some high heat and ride it over left center for No. 11 on the year.

34 shutouts would be incredible, which is why I don't expect it to happen despite our tremendous pitching depth. What I think we may have to do is get our % of games with 3 or less runs scored down to the 30-35% range rather than above 40% as it is now, as we're only winning maybe 1/3 of those games. If we get that number down 10%, that should provide about 7 more wins, putting us in the 90s.

Cards

Matt Carpenter - 3B
Mark Ellis - 2B
Matt Holliday - LF
Allen Craig - RF
Yadier Molina - C
Matt Adams - 1B
Jhonny Peralta - SS
Peter Bourjos - CF

Shelby Charles Miller - RHP (7-5, 3.59 ERA)

Yesterday I could feel it in my bones that we would score in dbl digits. I must have just been arthritis.

I have to wonder just what quality in the sub-Mendoza Ellis makes him a #2 hitter in Matheny's mind?

Likewise, our .300 hitting lefty power hitter bats 6th. Could someone clear this up for me?

Re: 2014 MLB game #69: Cards vs. Nats: Sat 6/14

If they can get their offense going they will win a lot of those 4-3, 3-2 games instead of losing them. If that were to happen this team could easily put together a 7 or 8 game win streak IMO. I think the fans, the players and the rest of baseball know that Holliday, Craig, Peralta and Adams are capable of more. In the case of  Holliday and Craig a lot more. I also think there is room for a lot of improvement in using Bourjos, Wong and Ellis speed a lot more when given the chance. This team needs to be more aggressive at the plate and especially on the bases. They give up a lot to other teams with poor range and throwing arms at a lot of positions so they need to at least attempt to steal a few themselves the way i see it. Station to station will not get it when other teams run the bases at will. Obviously this does not mean Yadi. I think this will be the toughest one to win of the series. Strasburg is a serious pitcher and we don't know what Miller will show up. The dominating guy from last time or the guy that has control issues. If they do get a win tonight it will be a big one to win.

GO CARDS!

My memory may be off, but as I remember we always seem to knock Strausberg around. Yes?

Wow, if OT is in RF there, that's a single and runners at the corners. Craig took a bad angle and allowed a double and the run to score from first...on a ground ball past the second basemen. How does a grounder to 2B allow a runner to score from first? Good grief.

Well, lets see if the Cards took the nerf noodles out of the bat rack.

What is the over/under this MIA lineup scores a run tonight? Beyond belief how anemic they are game after game.

I agree the offense has struggled this year, but Zimmermann and Strasburg are pretty good.

The offense has been equally bad versus pretty bad pitchers.

Well our base running hasn't been great either. Ellis running on Holliday's groundout probably cost us a run.

It should also be noted that Holliday failed to hit behind the runner so as to allow him to advance.
