Tough series this weekend ladies and gentlemen. The Nats have played well lately, and are in first place in the East although their record is a relatively modest 35-30.  We're at 34-32, so not much difference at this point in the season.

Need to grab that first one, although when Zimmerman is on he's real tough. And so far in '14 most every pitcher is "on" against us. confused

Any word on who's coming off the DL, who's going down, who's staying, etc?

Saw him pitch Sunday at Petco. Carried a no-no into the 6th and was flat out dominant.

Taking 2-3 would restore some faith and a sweep would make up for the games we blew in DC earlier this season.

My guess is Taveras goes down and Adams is activated. I personally would send Grichuk down b/c he looks over matched but i think they keep him b/c he plays center field. We can beat these guys especially since we won't see Gio. It is time for the Cardinals to start having fun again. The stress of a disappointing season can wear a team down mentally month after month. They have had a little break this past week so let's see if they come out swinging. I think we take 2 out of 3 here.

GO CARDS!

Langosch tweeted out that Taveras is the one going back down for the activation of Matt Adams. So in other words there will be no platooning going on between Craig and Adams. Best for Taveras to get regular at bats and not have to wait his turn for at bats at major league level. He'll get his major chance sometime soon.

Kind of interesting that Matheny in one of the FSM articles on early impressions of Taveras before his demotion commented on him having "a few mechanical flaws". You don't want to mess with his mechanics too much that risk screwing him up even if they look unorthodox but it's so natural to Taveras. Even the hitting at Springfield two years ago was with him for five months and said publicly that he never told him anything. Went on to say that his job was to not screw the kid up.

If OT is going back down, I'm assuming he's not coming back anytime soon. He's presumably going down because there's not enough room for him to play regularly right now, and I don't see how there will be unless Adams, Craig, or Holliday gets injured, or Craig or Adams just stops hitting while OT tears it up in the minors. Presumably he'll be back with expanded rosters, but I just don't see how the Cardinals are going to use him this year until then if they've decided Adams and Craig are more useful right now.

As I have stated numerous times, one of three things will have to happen soon:

1. Adams or Craig is traded
2. Taveras plays CF
3. The NL soon adopts the DH

My guess is that option #1 is most likely, although option #2 might work short term.

Do you guys ever get a feeling for a game? I do sometimes, but not often. I have a feeling on this one. I think that Lance will pitch OK, give up a couple of runs, but we will have one of those double digit run games that we had last year 2 or 3 times a week. I think we will pound Zimmerman. And then their pen.

Just a feeling.

Just about have to agree.  Will the Cards have the guts to trade Craig or Adams?  Or how about Holliday?

Personally I still say option #2 might be the likely scenario, with Jay or Borjous being the backup.

I watch both teams a lot, and I don't feel good about this series. We don't have Waino going in any game, and the Nats are red hot. They just took 3 of 4 and mostly pounded the Giants in San Fran. They had a cold streak a few weeks ago, but now they are really hitting the ball, their bullpen is becoming more reliable, and they have solid starting pitching. Espinosa and Desmond are maybe the best middle infield in the NL defensively.

The Nats are going to score a few runs with the way they are hitting, so we better give Lynn some run support.

Lynn allows his first hit in the 6th. Pitch count a little high at 85.

Zimmermann with only 76 pitches through 8 but losing 1-0. Rosenthal in for the save.
