MLB off-day thread - Mon 6/9

You know the drill. An open thread sits here, waiting for any off-day subject not worthy of its own discussion.

Having recently passed the 1/3 mark on the season, we now have a pretty fair idea of what each team is all about. Biggest surprise team? Milwaukee? Most disappointing team thus far? Certainly last Fall's World Series participants have to at least be in the discussion. AL and NL RoY, CY and MVP leaders?

Boston has been a huge disappointment, certainly moreso than us I'd say.

One thing that I noticed this weekend was news about several key guys close to coming back. Adams and Lyons are getting minor league starts, and Gast is apparently throwing in the minors now. Plus, Siegrist is supposedly ready for a rehab game too. I don't know how much longer Kelly's hamstring is going to take, but it looks like we are going to have some serious pitching depth soon. This tells me we can hang in the playoff race throughout the summer, and could really take off if the offense starts clicking with any consistency.

pugs

Cards looked like a totally different team, this weekend....

Shelby.....I'll just leave it an one word comment

the youth seems to start deserving playing time....

need to close ranks with Brewers....and hold off Pirates/Cincy, obviously....

Magnifico, HardHeaded! You say oh so much with such few words. Your word about Shelby, "Shelby", was textbook.

They better not send Freeman down.

Go with the 'Vette, Rats. It's a classic "old guy" car.

One of my favorite players. I saw him pitch last September in Coors Field, and the guy had great stuff. Ever since then I have been touting him to be in our bullpen. Glad he's finally gotten the opportunity to pitch more than in a mop up role. I knew if given the chance the kid would be tough to send back out.

They will probably leave Lyons at Memphis. Seth Maness needs to go out for some work at Memphis. We need to keep the KU Kid. won't hurt to have three lefties in the pen.

When Adams returns we probably see Grichuk go out and maybe Oscar stays. Biggest problem is he is a lefty but seems to hang in on southpaws pretty well. Tampa Bay series important to both. Or both could go down and Piscotty gets his turn. The experience at the top, however brief, has got to help later in the year.

Rat's a young pup at heart though, BicycleMike. I'm still a long ways off from retirement, but look forward to the life of leisure that Rat will soon be experiencing. Look Rat....you only retire once so you have to go out in style. If you want to impress the ladies(Rat is a bachelor), you have to purchase both A and C. Just think.....a moon lit drive over to Inspiration Point in your brand spanking new Alfa Romero...cool wind in your hair....Cuban stoogie in your yap...Perry Mason playing on your DVD monitor....what girl could resist?

This is an easy one. Lotus all the way, not close. The Alpha is a cute car but will spend more time in the shop than on the road. I won't want to be in one if it crashed either. The Corvette while gorgeous is just like a beautiful woman expensive, fast and not always running right. The Nissan is nice but the Lotus... OMG!

GO CARDS!

Re: MLB off-day thread - Mon 6/9

The two big stories from our off day may be intertwined. First in St. Petersburg, Joe Maddon hired the services of a real honest to goodness Indian(Seminole) Medicine Man to parade around Tropicana all day in hopes of bringing good fortune to the Rays. The esteemed Medicine Man brought good luck all right..... but to the wrong player and the wrong team. It appears the beneficial spell he cast drifted a little northwest to the great State of Texas where fellow Indian, Lonnie Chisenhall, poked 3 long ones and drove in an eye popping 9 runs, while Maddon's Rays were shut out 3-0. You wonder if this Medicine Man had any money back guarantees in play?
