Already looking forward to this game, as well as the Wednesday night.  The last two games the Redbirds seem to have some life in them.  Just have that feeling we are on the verge of a hot streak that will catapult us to being right on the heels of Milwaukee.

One can only hope. The Rays have lost 12 of their last 13 games, and have the worst record in MLB at 24-40. Naturally, we'll probably be swept.

Seriously, I wonder if Madden is taking any heat from the Rays fans (either of them) the way the Cards fans are screaming for the heads of Matheny and/or Mabry?

I highly doubt he's taking any heat, JMo. With his track record and losing 3/5ths of his starting rotation to injury, only a person of the ilk of a NathanLeopoldJr would get on his back for how poorly they are playing. No team can compete with sustaining that sort of loss to it's pitching staff....please...let me rephrase that...no team other than Atlanta or Oakland could ever realistically expect to compete with taking the sort of hit to it's staff that these 2014 Rays have taken.

Tuesday night's game with Waino going troubles me. What do we know about this pitcher for Tampa? Jake Othorizzi...no...Jake Issringodor...no...let me take a peek here....Jake Odorizzi....never heard of the guy....which usually spells doom for the Cardinal offense. As we all so painfully know, if our Birds are facing an unheralded hurler, especially one where you'd have trouble pronouncing his name, then we're in big trouble.

I doubt you want a serious answer, but in case someone does...

Odorizzi is from western IL about 20 miles east of StL. He was a first round pick of the Brewers the year the Cards took Wallace and Lynn in the first. He was later part of two huge trades - first Grienke coming to KC then leaving with Wil Myers to TB.

He was the "other guy" traded with Will Myers for James Shields. I think he originally came to the Royals in the Greinke deal

Of course I knew all about Odorizzi. I could of told you what the guy had for lunch last Tuesday. Let's see "The Cat" do that, MrPerkins!

They also got Mike Montgomery, who is putting together a solid year in Durham for the Rays AAA squad, after falling apart (prospect-wise) the last three seasons.

Odorizzi's FIP is actually 3.15 and he is striking guys out at a 11.1 K/9 clip so he probably isn't as bad as his ERA and record would indicate.

The Royals, however, got more than just James Shields (and his eventual draft pick). They got Wade Davis, who has been one of the best bullpen arms in baseball this season and is locked up for a long time.

The Rays lose again today, 3-0 to Seattle.  Hoping they continue to struggle for just two more games.  I always thought Joe Madden was an excellent manager and would like to see him win.

About four hours till the first pitch.  Looking forward to this game.  Sort of starting to have that good feeling about the Redbirds again.  I'll watch this until its time to watch Cannon.  Hopefully we'll be far enough ahead by the 7th inning that i wont miss anything when i switch over to Cannon.

I almost feel like we have to win these two games. We are riding a small uptick right now and have our top two pitchers going against a struggling team. Winning these games would give us a 4-game winning streak headed into a home stretch where we should be able to finish above .500. Losing one or both of these games wouldn't be the end of the world, but would be a pretty big missed opportunity, as I don't know how much more above .500 we'll play this month considering our opponents coming later.

Hopefully you'll get more than your fill of "cannon" shots early on this evening, compliments of some Redbird Louisville sluggers, Rat. Any olde tymers out there remember "The Toy Cannon", Jimmy Wynn of Houston? The guy could stroke it.

Well it's that time again where we see if PBP for tonight's game in Tampa is going to be a happening thing or not? The first "yea" or "nay" will decide it. As a quick aside, never in the 9 year storied history of our Birdhouse/CardinalNation PBP has there ever been a "nay" vote registered. Never! I think that speaks volumns as to the professionalism put forth by not only those in the booth, but to all of the unheralded staff behind the curtain who make it possible.

Anybody else thinking the same thing I am? That being tonight will be the official coming out party for one, Oscar Francisco Taveras. Everyone here knows how much I relish having a mic in my hand. Well if Oscar doesn't go yard at least once tonight I'll swear off doing PBP for 2 weeks.....you have my word on that.

We'll be missing it tonight too if nobody weighs in with a "yea" in the next 90 minutes. Not to worry MAP. I would never chance going PBPless for 2 entire weeks. There are 3 certain things in life....death, taxes and Oscar Taveras going yard on 6-10-14.

Please let the records show that the "yeas" once again have it in shutout fashion. Anybody care to join me in the booth tonight? BuckNut? Big11?

Thanks MAP!

Looks like Matheny did not take any of our lineup suggestions.

But then if we were a big league manager, neither would we. Managers tend to get into set "rules" on things, but then they are dealing with players that prefer to be in a routine for the most part, and not moved around a lot.

One time when Billy Martin was managing, his team was really struggling and he literally pulled the batting order out of a hat one night to see if that would shake things up. Don't recall what ended up happening though.
