Re: 2014 MLB game #64: Cards at Jays: Sat 6/7

Sooner or later this offense has to wake up.  Some of the atbats are just pitiful.  Sort of like last night late I am watching the WhiteSox at the Angels and Pujols steps in.  I said outloud "Here comes a slow grounder to the left side" and sure enough Albert hits about a two hopper that the 3rd baseman easily gloves and throws him out.

It almost doesn't look like our boys have any fire in them this year.  I keep saying its going to change, but again it looks like it will be later than sooner.  And we might be so far behind by then that it will be too late.  We are only 5 games out even though we have been pitiful so far.

I'll miss the game today, i'll be out on my Harley-Davidson..:)

Tough match up today. Buerhle has been great so far this year, and Shelby is HR prone. I wouldn't really have much confidence in us winning right now unless Waino is pitching, so that says something.

It is very much starting to look like that the only thing that might turn this around is a major trade. If Mo waits much longer and the other clubs see desperation, they will try and pick his pocket.

Yadi not behind the plate again. Matheny really milking the DH to get Yadi some rest here, especially while he's struggling to hit.

First one has to be Big City. Second one might be Mo.

Baustista just missed a HR, but Shelby with a nice, efficient first inning there.

Two out walk for Oscar, then an Ellis single, but Bourjos strikes out.

Quick second inning for Shelby. He's throwing strikes and not walking people yet, which is key for him. Let's see if he can actually get some run support now...

Re: 2014 MLB game #64: Cards at Jays: Sat 6/7

Leadoff walk, then the 1-2-3 hitters go 1-2-3. Honestly, this lineup is so unimposing right now. It's not just the lack of HRs, it's that few guys are even hitting the ball hard. We've had a pretty solid line drive rate coupled with a relatively low average, which suggests some bad luck, but lately it seems to take several hits for us to do anything because we aren't putting balls in the gap or over the wall.

I'll add a comparison that I think may be a good one. We look a lot like the Nats in the last two years: really good pitching, but almost no threats in the middle of the lineup. The Nats have had a hard time keeping key hitters healthy, but they are getting healthy and are now hitting, plus they've added a few pieces to move key RBI guys down in the order. We look a lot like they have in that we are competitive due to pitching, but just don't have much threat in the middle of the lineup.

Carp is called out on strikes so was Holliday. Both pitches were borderline strikes at best...but they need to go up aggressive not taking pitches especially close ones. The bunt attempt by Carp bug me but I am in a bad mood anyway.

I'd be less upset with Holliday's K if he hadn't missed a hanging pitch up in the zone right before. Seriously, that was a pitch that a hitter of his caliber would usually mash. Yet Matt's power has been almost non-existent this year so far, and he whiffed an obvious mistake over the heart of the plate.

Something finally cooking in the 4th, after Oscar draws his second walk. Peralta had doubled before him. Bourjos rips one off Buerhle for a hit, and it's bases loaded for Cruz.

Cruz grounds to 3B for the last out. Missing chances again.
