On a good note, we are only what, 5 games out of first?  Or something like that.

I keep thinking that sooner or later this team is going to catch fire.  There's just too much talent for it not to over the long marathon of a season.  However, it does look like it will be later.

Re: 2014 MLB game #61: Cards at Royals: Wed 6/4

Favorable match ups in these next two, although maybe Ventura will pitch against Waino tomorrow. We should split this series 2-2.

As for getting hot, well, we had a hot two weeks, including taking 2 of 3 from both Atlanta (big overall series win) and Cincy (against whom we've done well). But on that 9-3 stretch, 5 of the wins were against the Cubs and DBacks. Outside of those bad teams, we've been 6-9 against Cincy, Atlanta, NYY, SF, and KC -- all potential playoff teams. And 12 of those 15 games have been at home - not good.

We are what we are, which is a .500 or so team. I'm not seeing where we get going this month, as we have to play a hot Toronto team on the road, at Tampa, then have the Nats (who are getting healthy and finally hitting) at home. There's a 7-game home stretch against the Mets and Phillies in which we'll have to clean up, because then we hit the road for LA and Colorado to close out June. I suspect we'll be just a few games over .500 going into July, when 9 of our games will be against the Giants, Brewers, and Dodgers.

This just looks like a team that will float around/above .500 and maybe get hot at the end when we play almost our entire September against the division and finish at Arizona.

Heckuva defensive outfield.

Regarding the offense, you gotta think we are gonna take off. I saw it mentioned that we are #1 in line drive percentage. It'll translate soon enough.

Ellis getting the start. Not sure if that's to get him in, or because Wong is a little sore from last night. Maybe both. Anyway, let's take advantage of the DH here.

Also, I like our chances tonight. Waino usually doesn't stink two starts in a row, and he's coming off a rare bad one.

You're right, Big11, he just doesn't. I always worry about these games because if Waino were to deal his second consecutive clunker, then you start thinking something is about to give...physically. I was just thinking about that yesterday; if something were to happen to Waino then this ship would really start taking on water......enough of this talk!! Let's think of cheery things like the Cards starting a big ol' winning streak tonight and maybe Taveras going on a home run binge.....and the icing on the cake? How about a little PBP???

Yep, let's hope last night was the low point.

Euro a good guy, EWolf! The mega-winning streak starts tonight. We still haven't received a "yea" or "nay" on whether PBP is going to be a happening thing for tonight's game though??

I can help with some PBP subject perhaps to a few breaks for housework, but I can provide notice.

The "yeas' have it in shutout fashion....or the same as what Waino is going to do with these Royals this evening. Thank you gentlemen(MAP & MrPerkins)!

Royals start with Vargas on the mound. He's a lefty whom KC picked up as a free agent, which was controversial at the time because they could have re-signed Santana for less commitment. He has actually been pretty solid so far.

Carp starts it right with a base knock right up the middle.

Re: 2014 MLB game #61: Cards at Royals: Wed 6/4

Top of 1    Vargas fondling the rosin for KC this evening.

Carpenter- Lines a base hit to center!

Grichuk- Hit deep to left!...but the park is going to hold this one as Butler has it measured....and hauls it in a step shy of the track....and now Carpenter is tagging up from 1st!...and he'll easily beat the throw into 2nd...sweet! I'm surprised we don't see more of that....taking liberties on the paths from 1st to 2nd.

Holliday- Grounds it out to Escobar at short...gloves it and then quickly eyes Carpenter....wings it over to Big Hoss at 1st for out #2.

Craig- Walks.

Yadi- Takes a big cut but dribbles one down the 3rd baseline...Vargas pounces on it and th....no!....he dropped the ball and the bases are filled to the maximum with Redbirds! Let's make them pay for this....after all, it's what good teams do.

Peralta- Hits a little tapper to the 1st base side of Vargas, who this time cleanly gloves it and lobs it on over to Hosmer at 1st to retire the side.

Re: 2014 MLB game #61: Cards at Royals: Wed 6/4

Waino takes the mound, his ERA at a little over 2 after a rough outing last game.

Infante in the leadoff spot for KC tonight, and he grounds one right to Peralta, who makes the easy play for the first out.

Waino falls behind Hosmer 2-0, but battles back to even the count, then Hosmer whiffs against the nasty Waino curve.

Butler chops one to 3B, where Carp is there to glove it and toss it to first for the 1-2-3 inning.

Very Kosma-esque at bat by Peralta leaves them loaded, but hey we blew a 4-0 lead last night so even a slam is no guarantee of a win.
