I think its time for the Redbirds to get their act together.  We cant continue to flounder around .500 if we hope to win the division or a wild card.

Remember, we are just one winning streak away from being good.  7-8 in a row, 11 of 12, and we will just about be in high cotton.

Can only say that for so long....people have been saying that since the first few weeks of the season, guess what this is a .500 team with the manager they got leading them

Re: 2014 MLB game #60: Royals at Cards: Tue 6/3

I thought Shields was going tomorrow for the Royals, but I guess that means tonight and tomorrow night will be the toughest two pitching match ups of the series (assuming Ventura is back tomorrow for KC). This will be a tough game, as Shields is a horse and doesn't get hit a lot. The good thing is that Jaime hasn't allowed much besides a few HRs, and the Royals aren't much of a HR threat.

A win here and I think we can win this series, but a loss puts us at a 2-2 or 1-3 split.

Re: 2014 MLB game #60: Royals at Cards: Tue 6/3

I keep seeing and hearing calls for someone's head because the team sucks and it does.  People want to fire Matheny orLilliquist or Mabry and maybe all three.  Now, I''m not a huge fan of any member of the Troika but I think a big part of the problem is Mo.  He knew we needed offense desperately over the winter at least I hope he knew.  His big solution is to acquire  Jhonny "the juicer" Peralta now hitting .229, Peter "the jet" Bourjos now hitting .202 and Mark "the zombie" Ellis now hitting .165.  Not a great off season for Mo in my opinion.  I have no love for the field management but what do they have to work with?  Some talent to be sure but too many slugs. When your bench is Jay, Bourjos, Descalso, Ellis, Robinson, et al.  Good grief what is that?  Joe McCarthy, Casey Stengel. Sparky Anderson. Whitey Herzog even Connie Mack would say, "You can't expect me to compete for a World Series with this roster.  Go out an get me some talent, then call me and we'll discuss salary."

I have to agree with Nathan whether i want to or not. The Mark Ellis sign made Zero sense and in hindsight he is even worse than i thought. Just an awful player. Descalso is not much better even if he does give good effort. This team's bench is as bad as i have ever seen to be honest. This off season was an absolute DISASTER.

In fairness to Mozeliak he knows they mis judged the new players this off season and is actually ready to make some moves from what i hear. The problem is that everyone has seen what a mess our bench is and know the Cards will be desperate. We will probably get help up if we try and trade now.I can actually see this team collapsing before then though. The body language on this club is horrible this year. I can't help feel there is something wrong in that clubhouse.

Re: 2014 MLB game #60: Royals at Cards: Tue 6/3

As a Cardinal fan it's a feeling I have not experienced in a long long time....if ever. No matter who the opposition trots out there, my insides scream "oh no....this guy is trouble"! The hurler can be seasoned or raw, accomplished or unaccomplished, righty or lefty, flamethrower or off-speed driven, tall or short or fat or thin, it doesn't matter, in all likelihood they are going to toss a gem when facing our 2014 Cardinals. It also has to be a terrible feeling for the Cards pitching staff knowing that there is virtually no margin for error because if it's run support they need it's just not coming. The trading chips are there to acquire a bat, so let's hope Mo can pull the trigger. It doesn't mean he has to give away the farm to do so. It's obvious that Mo would just as soon cross Niagara Falls on a high wire like the Great Wallenda did a few years ago vs trading one of his young farmhands, but he's going to have to muster the strength to do so. Trying to think....who was the last notable youngster that he traded....? Anyway if Taveras performs well and the Cards add another decent stick then maybe we can get back to just complaining about our poor defense at a couple of our positions....what a relief that would be.

Re: 2014 MLB game #60: Royals at Cards: Tue 6/3

Lineup already misses Adams, best batting average and OPS on the team and he is sidelined. Grinchuk was leading Memphis with 10 homers already this season. He was obviously tight last night but I would like to see him get a full shot this time. Taveras, well let's see what he does the next few games. He is 2 out of 10 right now and one homer does not impress me that much.

Well this is a first I agree with you. Especially the last two sentences I think they are spot on.

I didn't see a Wong grand salami coming there. That was huge, as you don't know how many chances you'll get against Shields, and we didn't want to waste another bases loaded situation.

Also, OT led off the inning with a hit. Young birds making it happen here tonight.

Gotta love how Jaime has attacked the strike zone since he's been back. He keeps his pitch count low and doesn't walk people.

19 K's and 0 BB coming in to tonights game. Garcia has always been a solid pitcher and actually has the best breaking and of speed stuff on the team. The only question i have is his long term health.

Jaime missing his spots and is getting rocked. Shields now 2-2 and drives in the Royals second run. 4-2.

What did you expect. Just another typical HighMay start. Can't stand prosperity, can't hold a lead, two games in a row now.

Gordon homers. We're down 6-4.

I have nothing to say except that we just stink right now.
