Lineup: Carpenter 5, Peralta 6, Holliday 7, Craig 9, Molina 2, Adams 3, Ellis 4, Jay 8, Waino 1.

11 relievers shown as available, including new Cardinal David Aardsma and Jose Almarante, over from minor league camp.

Steve Levy and former Cardinal Eduardo Perez will be on the call for the ESPN national audience.

If a .500 Grapefruit League record is a goal, wins today and Thursday are needed.

Looks like a good start by a potential starting lineup against another plausible playoff team and good pitcher: 3 hits and 2 runs in the first. Gio didn't throw a lot of pitches, so both he and the offense were aggressive.

Yadi 2-rbi single has the Cards up 2-0 after one.

To close T1st, a Waino curve fooled Harper badly.

Immaturity. It was a very close play not like it was a total fail by the umpire. It is a ST game plus he really went out his way to show up the ump.

Not sharp walked the first batter...gave up a single but got out of the inning without giving up a run.

On an unrelated note Joe Blanton was released. They should release also the GM who gave him that 3 yr contract.

Martinez has a rough outing he gives up 2 runs. Matheny gets him out. Neshek in. Carlos had a really telling body language, he is not happy. Maybe as with Rosenthal they should have told Martinez he was the 8th inning guy from the beginning.

This is one time, when I find myself agreeing with.....(holding nose).....Joe Strauss.  Martinez got bamboozled.

You can't convince me that Matheny didn't know going in that he would rather have Martinez as the 8th inning guy than Kelly.  Maybe he thought the  <cough> competition would be closer and make his decision look good. Well, it wasn't, and now it looks like Martinez was a victim of a bait and switch.

Derrick Goold tried to rationalize it in his chat today, but sorry Derrick, I ain't buying the "Don't Look at the Man Behind the Curtain" routine.  I've seen it too many times.

Martinez will have to get over it.  I think having Martinez as the 8th inning guy is the right move, it just was handled terribly from the beginning.

Looking forward to the first instance where someone is kicked out and then proven right by an instant replay overturning the umpires call.  I'm guessing the person is still out of the game?
