RE: Smuggling of Cuban players

"Dozens of players have settled in countries around the Caribbean, South America and Mexico to avoid rules that force Cubans into the MLB draft, in which signing bonuses are limited, if they defect directly into the United States."

So basically, Martin did the same thing as Carlos Martinez, except he went from Cuba to Mexico instead of New Jersey to the Dominican.

His travails in Mexico were not the price he paid to escape cuba and play baseball in the US, rather, it was the price he paid to avoid the draft and rake in the big bucks. No problem with that, his choice. Paid off to the tune of $15 Million. I am availible to be similarly victimized.

bb, I believe you have confused Carlos Martinez and Alex Reyes, not that either have much relevance to Cubans, IMO.

E-10(Error Poster). Might be kind of fun for this site to start keeping track of booted posts such as the one Bling just committed. We only get charged with an error if it's a slam dunk no doubt posting miscue. Right under our names our # of errors could listed in kind of a bold cardinal red hue. I want CardinalNationHouston to take no offense whatsoever to what I'm about to say as he's truly one of the good guys on this site....but he just might find himself atop the leaderboard in this category from time to time.

At what point does MLB come under fire legally from the FBI?  They are essentially accomplices in human trafficking by providing a direct financial incentive.  It didn't sound like the Rangers were that far removed from the smugglers when they signed Martin.
