Ugh, I hope not.  Al Hrabosky's nonsensical babble is bad enough.

Personally I would love to see that.  Hope he makes a return to Busch and does some commentary for us.

Ditto. Would be great to see Tim rejoin the Cardinal family.

McCarver is personable and knowledgeable. I would welcome it.

Re: McCarver to join Cards booth in 2014?

He was the second ML ballplayer to say hello to me (July 6, 1973).  The first was Tug McGraw (the Sunday before the All-Star break, 1972).

I used that in an MC-type intro I did in 1989, when Tug was our (Governor's office) guest for a week in Guam.  I told of how I had, as a teenager at Candlestick Park, shouted out to Tug (who was shagging flies in the outfield) my congratulations at his having made the All-Star team.  He said, "Hey, thanks!"

Then I told of a few years later, when I was at the Astrodome in 1978, watching Floyd Bannister warming up and telling him I used to watch him pitch when he was playing summer league baseball with the Fairbanks Goldpanners.  He said, "Big deal."

As the audience chuckled, I paused, looked at Tug, and said, "Now, you'll notice that Floyd Bannister is not here today."

Best joke I ever told in public.

Despite all of the criticism McCarver gets from viewers, I've always liked the guy. It would be a cool "full circle" sort of thing if he came back and worked some games with  the team that originally signed him as a player.

I believe he and Mike Shannon are still great friends, so maybe McCarver and Shannon will be reunite in the Cardinal family.

I'm sure Tim is a nice guy, but i have to side with crdswwmn here. I found him so painful to listen to during the playoffs, and if he does come on board, I will start selecting the away feed on the MLB.com service.

The criticism is justified. I have nothing against the guy on a personal level, but he is one of the worst broadcasters I have ever had to endure.  Listening to him is just painful.

On the other forum, they are suggesting that McCarver would be less of a bloviator on a local broadcast than on the national broadcast, where he has to pander to a bunch of no-nothings.

I'm so use to seeing McCarver on national broadcasts that it's hard for me to judge what he would be like at the local level.  He seems like a nice enough guy and knows baseball.  The fact that we would be hearing some new stories about back in his Cardinal days would be a plus on its own.

Not this is saying much, but right off the back I think McCarver > Hrabosky.  Call it low hanging fruit, but an upgrade is an upgrade noidea

It isn't so much bloviating, though he does that too, but he just says things that make no sense.  For instance, during Game 6 of the 2011 WS, going on and on about pinch hitting a pitcher and how it should be Garcia, after he started the game and had been removed several innings before.  It's like he isn't even aware of what is going on during the game half the time.

Re: McCarver to join Cards booth in 2014?

This is the time of year for stupid rumors so i guess i should not be surprised. Mcarver detests the Cardinals or was that not obvious enough during the World Series? I will never forget him shaking his head for a full 60 seconds after the Craig interference call in Game 2. It was just classless. And he was dead wrong to boot. Also while few know more about baseball than Tim he still manages to be grating and hard for me to listen to at all. There were some hard feeling when Tim left here and i think it really showed this past World Series. God i hope not, this would be just  horrible choice. ohlord

GO CARDS!

Former Cardinals are always welcome. Especially those with a WS ring. If he stinks, so what. Not that he would. He and Shannon would probably tell some great stories.

I liked TM as a player and overall I like him as an analyst. I get that some of his "ways" annoy some people at times, but not to the degree that his detractors love to blast him. A lot of teams' fans say he's biased against them, which probably means he is a reasonably balanced analyst. He's been a durable guy and a true gamer in both careers.

Re: McCarver to join Cards booth in 2014?

Tim would not make that many errors with the Cardinals. Probably a really tough thing to keep up with 30 teams. We only focus on one for the most part.

I have never understood the criticism of a lot of the broadcasters. Actually Shannon is the hardest for me to listen to. He doesn't always explain what is going on. I like his stories and have always liked him as a Cardinal but I think he doesn't put as much effort into describing the game like he used to.

I really liked Joe Buck when he was with the Cardinals. Less so as a national broadcaster. As I mentioned they just don't have the insights when they are spread that thin. Then the national guys seem to overhype, over pander; probably what the network powers that be want. Buck had a great sense of humor when with the Cardinals.

He announced it at the start of the season.  Said he still enjoyed it all, but acknowledged after so many years that he'd reached a point in life where it was time to ramp down.  He's now in his 70s.

Pretty much agree on all of this. I always liked Shannon as a color guy with Jack, but don't care for him as a primary PBP man.

On a global level, while there are broadcasters I do not think are all that great, I don't let it get to me like some people who seem to obsess over broadcast styles and accuracies, or lack thereof.

They way I have always approached it is if I had hundreds of thousands to millions of people watching me on my job every day, I'm sure there would be more than enough criticism to share. So I cut broadcasters a lot of slack, although there are still some I don't care for all that much.
