Hot Stove 2013-2014

Hot Stove 2013-2014

I thought that maybe an umbrella thread for all hot stove news would be useful rather than new threads for every trade or signing made that someone wanted to talk about.  If Brian or the moderators want to put this into the Trade/Acquisition thread along with the Ellsbury thread that would be okay too.  This hot stove season is looking pretty active with all the trades and signings so far and the winter meetings haven't even started yet.

The Yankees are on the verge of signing Kelly Johnson on a one year deal.  Insurance for not signing Cano I would imagine.  The Yanks have got lots of improvements to make and plenty of money to do it with, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are the most active team.

It seems like they won't be signing Cano especially if they want to stay under the 189 million a year level. Cano to the Mariners and then probably Phillips gets traded to the Yankees. The Yankees are just going to get older trying to keep up and Win Now against the Red Sox.

Have the Royals given up on signing Beltran or can Aoki play CF?

Twitter said they're not giving on Beltran and they think Aoki can play CF.

If Choo can play CF, Aoki can play CF.  Of course, it depends on your definition of play.

Re: Hot Stove 2013-2014

Rangers supposedly about to sign Arencibia.  They were going to trade for him before the Jays non-tendered him but decided to wait and take their chances because he was going to get $2.8MM (estimated) as an arb-eligible.  MLBTR suggests this means they'll be signing him for somewhat less, (my guess) maybe $2MM or $2.5MM.

Of course MLBTR suggests that with his power, he only has to hit .215 to be valuable, which is ridiculous.  A home run or two a week is not going to make up for his inability to get on base the rest of the time.  Obviously, the power fetish continues.

Mariners get Cano at 10 yrs/240M

He ain't worth that much in my book.  He's 31 years old and the back end of that contract is going to be a bust.

RE: Hot Stove 2013-2014

That is Pujols money. I say Cano has a better chance of staying healthier (Pujols has an unhealthy year already in the books) and likely more productive than Pujols over the ten years. However, the Maireners don't have the Angles' money, so a bad contract will hurt them more.

21st Century postseason wins:
St. Louis(56),NYY(51),BOS(45),SFG(33),PHI(27),DET(25),LAA(21),TEX(18),ARI(16),LAD(14),TB-ATL-HOU-OAK(13),CHW(12),FLA(11),COL-CLE(8),MIL-MIN(6),CHC(6),NYM(6),SEA(4),PIT-BAL(3),CIN-WAS(2),SD(1),TOR-KC(0)

wow 240/10 that's a lot for Cano I agree. He gives up NYC for Seattle. Interesting the Yankees never budge to his demands. They rather have Ellsbury at 151 than Cano at 240. Not sure who the winner is Cano or the Yankees.

Feldman to the Astros on a 3yr/30MM deal. Not even to the Winter Meetings yet and there is now some rumors out there that the Mariners are willing to give up Starr prospect Walker to acquire Price. Mariners going all in for the short-term.
