Ellsbury to Yankees

Looks like Jacoby hit the lottery. Around 20 mil a year for seven years.

Shouldn't this be in the Trade/Acquisition thread?

The Yankees are stupid.

Wow that is an overpay but it's the Yankees so they can afford it. Writing is on the wall for Cano though.

That and Ellsbury is extremely overrated as a player. Hasn't even come close to the MVP caliber 2011 season he had. Not mentioning the injury history this guy has as well. Although there is a report out there that the signing of Ellsbury does not preclude Cano resigning.

And the Reds trade Hanigan to Tampa Bay.  Wonder what that's all about?  I know he had an off year at the plate this year but if I recall wasn't he hurt early?  Who becomes their everyday catcher now, Mesoraco?

Will there be anybody under 30 in the Yankee lineup? Old and expensive.

Brendan Ryan signed 2 years for 5 million total I believe also.

Re: Ellsbury to Yankees

Man, way over paid on that one. Ellsbury had that one break out season a couple of years ago, but then went back to his norm the last two years, with injuries playing a part.

This one kind of reminds me of what Boston did when they signed Carl Crawford a couple years back. Nice player, not not worth committing over $100 million on.

The only cavaet I will say on that, is that when you can get a guy from a divisional rival, then you can justify going a little higher.

Money wise yes but talent wise-no.  Right now we are worse off offensively than last year.  Beltan is gone so who will put up his numbers? Taveras?  Maybe and if he is as good as his potential then okay.  But if he can't then we're worse off on offense and we'll lose even more low scoring games in 2014.  Bourjos is not an upgrade ion offense and Peralta could be a bust post juice.  Doesn't look good at this point.

Nathan are you even a Cardinal fan? We are probably equal to last year at this point with a beter pitching staff coming back. Craig should be healthy all year so better numbers there. Peralta will out produce Kozma by a ton. Adams will probably match Beltran's numbers if not the production from Peralta will push that over the top. Freese probably will out produce Wong next year and Bourjos will probably outproduce Jay though he won't have any many RBI's I don't think.

Have you ever been happy with anything the Cardinals have done? I would just suggest you are a troll but you have been around so long and have been at this thing so long your either very dedicated or just the most unhappy Cardinals fan around.  Seems like you would be more happy as a fan of perinnel loser like Mariners or Astros's.

Somebody offers up a dissenting opinion and you get all defensive about it.  Why? It's nothing more than a discussion and it ought to be okay for someone to have a different opinion so long as he isn't insulting anyone when he expresses it.

And he makes a valid point.  We will find out, but I don't believe Peralta will make up for the production loss of Beltran either.  Especially not in the post season where Beltran always comes up huge.  The Cardinals lose to the Pirates in the NLDS without Beltran.

I disagree nathan.  A bad long term contract for a player who you hope is an upgrade right now does not mean you are maximizing your talent on the field over time.  In a couple years you will still have to be playing the guy whether he is your best option or not.  Consider the Angels.  They will be trotting Albert out there for years to come however bad he may get.  Hamilton too probably.  How would it be good talent-wise to be paying Carl Crawford $20M per to hit .275 with 6 HRs?  Ellsbury can't stay on the field in his 20's and they are going to be paying him $20+M into his later 30s. For a guy whose game depends on speed.  Talent-wise, yes, Bill and Mo look smart.

Let's keep the discussion off the 'personalities' of posters, please.  A healthy disagreement is fine and can certainly take place without questioning another's fandom.

Thanks and Go Cardinals!
