2013 World Series Game 4 thread: Red Sox at Cards: Sun 10/27

7:15 p.m. CT. FOX Network, ESPN Radio and KMOX.

Lance Lynn is "most likely" starting per Matheny with Wainwright being kept on regular rest for Game 5. Possible Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz is dealing with injury problems and may or may not be able to go Sunday night.

Updates: Buchholz threw on Friday and has been announced as ready to go. Lynn will start for St. Louis.

What do ya'll think about Lance Lynn starting? I cringe at the very thought of it.

Im fine with him starting...Miller should be ready to go as well..

still i am concerned with Adams and Craig if neither of them can go the starting lineup gets pretty thin probably with Wong starting at 2b and Carp at 1st...and no bench

So long as miller is in reserve I'm more than fine with it.

People forget Lynn had 2 wins in the LCS.  Is he perfect?  Heck no he ain't perfect and you know what?  I've been exceedingly critical of him.

He's probably better than an iffy buckholtz ... that's good enough for me.  You hope he has one of his good games.

You went this far with Lynn......

I think Miller is well rested but you run the risk of him being rusty....

I think honestly we see Shelby. Right now our pen is suspect at best heading into game 4.

Going into the series, this is the game I thought Miller was being saved for. I agree with BrianP and Booyah. One would imagine that Lynn should have on a shorter leash than a Pit Bull in heat. But we all have to admit the one thing that usually occurs when Lance Lynn is trotted out there to start a game..... good things often happen. Sometimes it may not be pretty, but the Cards usually prevail with Lynn coming away with the "W", so I have no problem with the assignment. Trip Gate - Part 2 tonight? Something weird could be in the cards yet once again.

Neither pen is in good shape, but they each have a long man rested. The biggest unknown is the health of Buchholz. If it gets to "second" starters, would you rather have Miller or Dempster ready to come in?

We all know that Lynn has been and CAN be a very good pitcher.  Let's just hope this is one of his nights.  Like other posters, though, I'm disappointed we're not seeing Shelby Miller at all in these playoffs.

I swear I don't get how the Jealous Janes can keep saying the Cardinals are boring in the postseason with a straight face.

They are actually too exciting for my liking. How about an 8-1 victory for a change!

I have no problem starting Lynn, as when he's on, and he's pitched well late this year, he can be over-powering.

Miller might be the secret weapon if there is a problem. Hopefully we do not need to go to him though.

Bucholtz and Miller seem to be going through the same thing, which is a  "tired arm".

A couple of IFs. If the Ump has a consistant strike zone and the defense plays well, Lynn will be OK. Just don't ask him to get more than three outs per inning.

Sort of ironic, or hard to believe, huh?  Twice in the last week Boston area pro sports teams lost critical games due to controversial calls literally at the very end of the game.

First the Patriots on the penalty call against the Jets and now the Red Sox on the obstruction call last night.

Be aware though, what usually goes around comes around.

Agreed. I was up until 3am last night b/c I couldn't get my heart rate down. When I saw that we won, I clapped my hands so loud that my glass break sensor went off.

Cadinals are going to win this series because the Red Sox' "Cub Factor" is higher than ours.

Book it.

Re: 2013 World Series Game 4 thread: Red Sox at Cards: Sun 10/27

I dont get the disdain for lynn as a 4th starter, hes by far our best option at this point. As for miller, he is more than likely upset, and im wondering how that coupled with not throwing live for a while will effect his performance.

I noticed a clip they replayed from the lockerroom after clinching the nlcs...motte dumped ice down the back on tony cruz, who laughed and threw some back at him. Then in the background he did the same to miller and it clearly pissed him off. He didnt take it well and he wasnt in a good mood 15 minutes after finding out he woudl be heading to the WS.

He may be a person who uses things like this to motivate him, hopefully thats the case. But its crazy to think that in july miller is a frontrunner for roy, and now hes no even being used in the playoffs. I dont think that hr he gave up (garrit jones?) in the one innin g he did throw did him any favors.

There is nothing controversial about the call.  It was obstruction and if he hadn't obstructed even someone as hobbled as Craig would have scored.

It was the right call.

Once again I hope Descalso starts.   Kozma can come in to run again in late innings.
