Re: Lester using Vaseline?

This is great.

An article written in early September about how much better Lester had all of a sudden gotten:

http://www.overthemonster.com/...y-cutter-tigers

The pitch has an average of almost ½ an inch less "rise" and almost ¾ of an inch more movement away from lefties. Both changes give the pitch more separation from his four-seam fastball, change-up and sinker, all of which are somewhat similar when grouped by movement. I had written last July that Lester's cutter had started to lose its cut,and speculated that Lester would either begin to abandon the pitch or find a way to get the movement back. Thankfully, it appears that the latte has happened.

Childish whining. Just admit that their ace is legit and ours isn't.

Why don't you respond to the post I made in the Wainwright thread in response to you before hijacking this one.

Thanks.

Yeah that sure is nothing in the glove, MLB once again shows it has no back bone over players cheating.

RE: Lester using Vaseline?

It really does look like he's cheating. I guess because he didn't get busted in the game they can't suspend him for the 10 games right?

Who knows, maybe it's just the reflection off that magnificent rainbow that has supposedly been following Red Sox players around wherever they go?

I personally don't have a problem with it and obviously neither did the Cardinals. We did not complain about Kenny "The gambler" Rogers so why complain this time. It would not have mattered anyway as the Cards gave them the game by the time the second inning was over. Make him pay by beating him next time.

GO CARDS!

I don't think the Cardinals knew about it until this video came out.  I don't think LaRussa complained about Rogers because he and Leyland were best friends and he didn't want to start anything.

Re: Lester using Vaseline?

At the very least, he won't be doing it in game 5 so that's a positive. The fact of the matter is that he shouldn't have been so blatant about it if it is just for grip. It didn't cost us the game or anything, but it sure looks like vasoline to me and not bullfrog (clear) sunscreen and rosin.

If I remember right, TLR went to the umps and they told him to wash it off. He didn't make a big scene about it b/c he didn't want to drag Leyland through the mud, in my opinion. I distinctly remember the ump approaching Rogers as he went into the dugout. Was that game 2? Rogers didn't pitch a second game in the series, did he?

That's how i remember it mtown.

Lester going again this series will be interesting.  Thanks pads for sharing that article about Lester's cutter magically getting better late in the season.

You could be right about the Leyland factor. There has always been leeway given though later in the year and as weather gets colder. My Dad pointed out tonight the Pine tar on Victorino's bat and he would have been right in May or June. I think it is the same with pitchers. The rules loosen up. It has always been this way right or wrong. Not defending this just making an observation. The George Brett incident NEVER happens i October. The reason is that baseball as a Sport squeezes out the nonsense for months sort of like a filter. Games on in the playoffs. If Lester was cheating that tells me he is unsure that he can beat the St.Louis line up. Next time i bet they get this guy hard.  Not b/c of the substance or his stuff but they will lay off his low junk and sucker pitches. 10-1 they make Lester throw fast balls in St.Louis and feast.

GO CARDS!

Re: Lester using Vaseline?

Lester says it was rosin.  Does that look like rosin?  I havent been around rosin for years and years now so someone will have to enlighten me here.  I dont recall rosin looking greenish or yellowish, but i suppose there could be some new rosin out there in todays world.
