I'm assuming Cole goes for the Buccos?

There not ready for us and 46K of the best fans in baseball. They might win a game but we got the vets who aren't losers to will us. Big series from our lefthanded hitters. IMO!

Pirates in 4. They're scorching hot, they have our number, and remind me of the 2003 Marlins. They'll eventually fall to the Dodgers in the NLCS.

You're not the brightest bulb on here I've noticed...so I'll go easy on you.

You do realize the Cards have won 6 in a row including the divison title??

RE: 2013 NLDS Game 1 thread: Bucs at Cards: Thu 10/3

I was thinking this morning, why were the Pirates even in the WC play in game? They had a better record (94-68 to 92-70)and played in a tougher division than the Dodgers. The post season seating should be based strictly on best record. The the forth and fifth best records should be the WC teams, even if they won a weak division. I know the Dodgers clinched a while ago and didn't have much to play for, maybe if they were playing to avoid the WC game they would have won more than the Pirates. But the rules should be such that all teams need to play their best all the way through the season to get the better post season seating.

St. Louis(56),NYY(51),BOS(45),SFG(33),PHI(27),DET(25),LAA(21),TEX(18),ARI(16),LAD(14),TB-ATL-HOU-OAK(13),CHW(12),FLA(11),COL-CLE(8),MIL-MIN(6),CHC(6),NYM(6),SEA(4),PIT-BAL(3),CIN-WAS(2),SD(1),TOR-KC(0)

The 2011 Brewers were hot late in the year and won the division title. How did they fare in October ?

The Pirates simply have the mojo to beat us. considering we can't hit lefties to save our lives.

...and historically we haven't done well against Burnett. This is a bad matchup for them. was really hoping the reds would win.

The Cards have not had any more trouble with Burnett than your average pitcher.  Burnett is 8-6 with an ERA of 4.11 in his career against the Cards and he has not been good at all at Busch Stadium, 1-2 with an ERA of 13.50 in 4 starts.

Liriano is the one who has been hell on the Cardinals.

The pitcher we face doesn't seem to matter too much. Our offense either goes to sleep or it doesn't.

The bigger factor is how well our starter does.

Argument1: Pirates will win, they are hot.
Counter1: Cardinals are hotter.
Argument2: Cardinals will lose, the 2011 Brewers were hot and they lost.
Counter2: banghead

Of course, the Pirates, as you already said, are scorching hot.....total different thing I guess.

Re: 2013 NLDS Game 1 thread: Bucs at Cards: Thu 10/3

The pirates are a good team and have played well against the Cardinals this year but they lack playoff experience and any player or coach will tell you that is important.  If the Cardinals stay cool and clam they'll win in 4 or 5 games.  If the offense takes  a vacation like they do sometimes then we'll be done after the NLDS.  I don't see that happening.

At this point are we going to pitch to Russell Martin in the latter stages of the game?  Or do we walk him, if possible, and force someone else to beat us?

Re: 2013 NLDS Game 1 thread: Bucs at Cards: Thu 10/3

Certainly you must consider pitching around Martin if possible and if the situation dictates that is the best case scenario. He has hit the Cards this year and he is obviously hot with the bat right now.
St. Louis veterans Molina, Holliday and Beltran should be refreshed and rested and that could be the most important factor in the Cards' capturing the division title.

Lets see....Cards have won 6 in a row going into the game....one might consider that scorching hot also......but nice to have a Pirate fan on the board.
