2013 MLB game 159 thread: Nats at Cards, Wed afternoon 9/25

Shelby Miller (14-9, 3.12) vs. Jordan Zimmermann (19-7, 3.18). 12:45 PM CT. FOX Sports Midwest and KMOX.

This will be Zimmermann's only shot to earn his 20th win, but he is 0-2 with a 9.12 ERA in five career regular-season starts vs. St. Louis.

Lineup: Carpenter 4, Beltran 9, Holliday 7, Adams 3, Molina 2, Jay 8, Freese 5, Descalso 6, Miller 1.

Holliday back, hopefully.

Why play Holli today with an off day tomorrow? Give him the two days rest and he misses just one game. Robinson has at least three good plays that i doubt Holli makes in the last three games. I would rest him with an eye towards winning in the play offs.

Apparently the above poster hasn't been watching lately. Holliday has made some outstanding defensive plays over the last couple of weeks. Conjecture and opinion on his ability to convert on the plays made by Robinson is just that, a guess.

He has, i agree. Holliday has been border line fantastic recently in the field especially going back on the ball. The plays i speak of all have to do with Robinson speed at getting to the line and keeping the balls out of the corner. I don't think Matts foot speed allows him to get to any of those balls and they become doubles instead of singles or outs. Do you think Holli gets over in the corner and makes that catch in the 8th last night? My point is that Robinson has played well there and i think we can get by for one more game. Your point is a valid one though considering how well Matt has played there recently. He owned left field on the trip to Colorado especially.

I agree Matt has looked good in the field lately, but Robinson is the better defender.  Still, with division and home field still up for grabs, Matt should be in there if he can perform near normal levels.

Lets see if Shelby is just going to let that new guy in the rotation hog up all the glory. wink

I'm sure Holliday would have gotten just two hits as well.

Perhaps Wacha's no-hitter wouldn't have been so close, but I bet the scoring over the last three games would have been higher. Of course, this is all conjecture.

I think you are right especially the way he has been swinging. We will never know. My point is that Robinson has made plays over there the last three nights that we have not seen all year. We could get by with him for one more game at least. There is an off day tomorrow which would provide two more days rest if Holli sits today. This is also conjecture b/c it could actually be worse if his back is tightening up to sit him for two more days. Back injuries are such an unknown.

Interesting spin presented today: The outfield is in better shape now than before the football game. Gotta wonder about that.

Generous scoring gives the Nats an earned run on a ball that clanged off Holliday's glove for an RBI single. Nats up 1-0 in T1st.

I still have to wonder why Busch management would book a football game between Middle of nowhere State and the Universativy of Anonymous in the middle of a pennant race? noideanoideanoidea

Great question. A lot of concessions sold, I guess.

Shelby bounces back with a quick 1-2-3 in the 2nd, cards down 1-0 mid 2.

He's got to be the antithisist of a "money" player. Or putting it another way, Holliday is like a box of chocolates!
