I would really like to sweep this series, but we don't fare too well on Sunday Night Baseball.  ESPN is bad luck.

Winning tonight and the Pirates losing would put us 3 games up going into the Nats series.  I would love to have that cushion.

These last two series will be tough.  Both the Nats and the Cubs will be gunning for us big time.  I hope the team is prepared for battle because it's going to be bloody.

me too...

Id like to be in a position where we could go 2-4 on the homestand and still be ok. This WC situation will look very different after todays game. If Wash can sweep the marlins, and the bucs beat the reds, the nats will be 2.5 back of the reds with 6 games to play.

That being said I dont think the nats make the postseason, but I also dont like the fact that they will be heading into busch...we get roark (never seen him pitch but stats are impressive) gio, and zimmerman (who has been on fire).confused

Reds score an early five runs in the first and lead by that score. Locke getting crushed.

I'd like to point out that Jon Jay now has a .346 OBP this season.

While his BABIP (and of course BA with it) tumbled from a 3-year career average of .348 to .317 this season, he has upped his other abilities.

He BB% went from 6.5% to 8.5% this year, which is pretty impressive since he hasn't ever displayed that good of a percentage before except in the minors.

He continued with his ability to get hit by pitches again getting 14 so far this season after getting hit 15 times last year.

Another solid year from Jay if I may say, 1.0-2.0 WAR.

I'm worried because Kelly seems to do better after a loss.  His one loss since joining the rotation came after a Cards win.  Yes, I know I'm obsessing here.

Agree on ESPN. I don't think we've won a game on Sun Nite BB!!!

Also agree on the Cubs: biggest series of the year for them with a chance to keep us behind the Braves.

Can't agree on the Nats however. The Reds have rocked them and they were already shakey! We do well vs. them.

Right now the Cubs are keeping it close, still 3-1

The Billy Hamilton express in Pittsburg is rolling along... on base all 3 times w/o the ball leaving the infield. That kid should be a Cardinal!

With the Nationals losing. Cardinals clinch playoff berth for right now.

This COULD be a huge win tonight.  Would love to be 3 games up with six to go.  Allows for some room to falter.

But, like I've ALWAYS said, the Cubs only chance at playoff baseball is when they play the Cardinals.  And with potentially a chance to hurt us next weekend I expect them to play like the '27 Yankees.

He was solid half the time and crappy the other half, as usual.

His 65 RBIs is impressive considering he never hits in the middle of the order.

Comedy of errors in the second inning. Need a good offensive inning soon.

Carpenter was made to look silly against that curve ball, and usually he gets a good hack.

4-3 now. Despite extremely poor defensive play early to basically give the Brewers the lead, we're in this one.

Sheesh, just as I say that, Gomez triples. He's really fulfilled the potential he had coming up.

Kelly is really showing something this inning. Nasty 84 MPH change followed by a 97 mph front door fastball. Also runs down Gomez from behind. Think we just got the momentum back.
