Re: 2013 MLB game 153 thread: Cards at Rockies, Thu 9/19

I said back when the season started in April that this week could be a pivotal week of the season.  I knew the Padres would go in to Pittsburgh and win at least three of four because they historically play well there.  And I figured with the Reds beating up on Houston and us beating up on Colorado, well, that would bode well for us heading into the final week.

Wacha keeps the ball down so he might pitch a good game today.  However, Oswalt always dominates the Cardinals so we wont have much offense at all today.  Better scratch out a run here and there, play some small ball.  We'll be lucky to win this one today.

The Cards haven't seen Oswalt in two years. The last two seasons, he is a combined 4-9, 6.38.

I doubt this is the same Oswalt circa mid to late 2000s. The Reds and Pirates are now set to battle for the home field in the play in game, their six games coming up should be a real donneybrook.

It would be easy enough for either to still win the division.  The Cards 2 game lead is a big advantage at this point, but a hot streak now by either could win it.

At this point, I hope the Reds and Pirates tear each other to shreds and split their 6 games.  I also hope the Cardinals can win another one today and that the Pirates lose another one.  I would feel much better having a 3 games lead with 9 games left.

BTW, the Cardinals could all but clinch a playoff spot today by winning against the Rockies and the Nats losing to Miami.

Reds are three games behind Cards on lost side. As it stands today, best case scenario might be that the Buccos and Reds split the six games right down the middle!

Lets hope Wacha is on and keeps it down. Don't give up any moonshots. I hope Mike has Yadi behind the plate. I know he needs rest, but its a bit late for that right now.

We could really tee off on Oswalt. He is not what he was.

As crazy as it sounds, I wouldnt even try to pitch to helton today unless the game is on the line and you have to.

Considering its his last game at coors, Im guessing the only strikes he will get today will be right down central or swinging.

I'm downtown already hanging out at my wife's school. We're going to have lunch together and then I'll head over to Coors Field.

It's cool here today, with highs projected in the 60s. Got my long sleeve Cardinal shirt on, and brought the "Sunday" hat to wear - the two-tone, bird-on-the-bat one.

I think we'll knock Oswalt around, and hope Wacha can keep them down. If Cuddyer is out, they will have a weak lineup.

Pretty cool that Wacha is pitching as I just saw his brother play for Wyoming the Saturday before last. His brother could very well be here today.

I don't. I'd like to see him get a little rest.

I want to see a lineup like this:

2B Wong
CF Jay
1B Carpenter
LF Holliday
RF Beltran (needs some rest too)
3B Freese
CA Cruz
SS Jackson rolleyes

With our bench only consisting of Chambers, Peterson, Robinson, Descalso, and Kozma (and Perez and Johnson?)

Kind of an outside-the-box lineup....

Well looks like Molina will be playing 1B today instead.

I liked your outside the box lineup Pads.  Jackson would have needed sunscreen, I'm sure he hasn't seen the light of day in a while.

Maybe Mike has seen enough of Peterson.  I have.

Padres go for the sweep as i predicted earlier in the week.  Game tied 1-1 in the 4th.

Rat

Correction:  Pirates jump out to the 4-1 lead in the 4th now.
