I watched Travis Wood pitch the last time out against the Reds. He was sharp, just ran out of gas, I believe the final was 2-0. Kelly has got to be right in this one and I have much more confidence in him than Westbrook.

Wood has been by far the best starter on the Cubs staff for this season. He'll just pound a cutter in on righties which makes him so effective.

We got a break tonight as Lucroy just yanked a two run dong off Arnold Chapman in the bottom of the 9th and the Brewers down the Reds 7-6.

Still in 2nd place heading into Saturdays action.

Reminder that roughly 70% of the US will get Yankees-Red Sox on FOX this afternoon with the Cards-Cubs blacked out. Here is the national map. 506sports.com/mlb-on-fox-aug…

Be a major lift today if we could get maybe seven or even eight innings from Kelly.

We won't - that's why they recalled Lyons.

No score headed to the last of the 3rd.

Redbirds have 9 up and 9 down against Wood through three innings.

We ever going to have any offense the rest of the season?

Cubs show why they are the cubs. Jay with a heads up play to turn a carpenter popup to napping ss Casto in short left field into a sac fly to make it 2-0

And Sveum promptly yanks Casto from the game. I like the old school attitude

Molina sends his dong deep into the crowd beyond the left field wall to make it 4-0. Welcome back Yadi!

No comment on the dong deep. Freese looks pathetic. He fouled off two pitches right in the heart of the plate and then took a pitiful swing to strike out again.
Kelly getting close to 100 pitches, but wow, he has electric stuff. Every pitch has some kind of movement. First pitch to Castro last time at bat before he was jerked out of the game hit 98 on the radar gun.

Kelly likely done after finishing 6 shutout innings on a career high 105 pitches. He is one gritty guy.

Wong looked pretty bad striking out. Maness will pitch the 7th.

The new Ace of the St. Louis staff. 4-0 last six starts with an ERA under 1.50!

His attitude would be less old school if Castro were hitting .300.

Cards win 4-0. D'backs lead Pirates 10-5 in the 8th... Whoops, 11-5.

Choate and Wacha get the job done in the 8th and 9th.  Redbirds come away with a 4-0 win.  Arizona now leading the Pirates 10-5 in the 8th.

Now if the DBacks hang on and the Reds lose it will be a good night.

Reminds me of Greg Maddux actually in that he is a very cerebral and athletic pitcher. Maddux was a much better fielder than he looked like he would be physically and could hurt you with the bat at times too. I am not saying Joe will be as good as Greg but i see a similarity. This kid is a keeper though i don't think he will be an Ace. I could see Kelly having 6 or 7 very good years and maybe a few more years after that.

GO CARDS!
