Last Wednesday Liriano really mowed down the Nationals, who looked pretty sluggish at the plate, like the Cards have these last three games. The other side of the coin is the Pirates didn't look too good at the plate either, but they were facing Strasburg.

The Bucs are just as good as the Braves and we're still on the road, so its not going to get easier. I'd like to see Beltran, Jay and Freese take a seat. Then just hope Jake is on.

I would think that MM would have enough sense to get Adams back in the lineup tonight. Freese is awful and I don't see him getting any better anytime soon. Would be hard for me to sit Beltran as he is one of the few guys right now who could pop a long ball. Jay is what Jay is. Right now, if Mo is going to make a move, it would seem to me that the Cards need a bat, not another starting pitcher.

I've been in Pittsburgh since Friday, but had to return home for work this morning. I left Mrs. DMENS in Pittsburgh and she will be in attendance tonight. I'm awfully nervous for her especially considering how poor we looked in Atlanta. Any other fans going to be in red at PNC Park this week?

While flying to and from Pittsburgh, the Southwest flight attendants made some jokes over the intercom about baseball. Mention of the Cardinals drew some hearty boos from other passengers and a few claps and hollers from my corner of the plane. Needless to say, everyone I talked to in Pittsburgh is VERY fired up for this series. The players and fans want to take out decades of frustration on the Cardinals right now.

The plus side of Pitt's extra motivation is that they might be easy to break. With a strong performance tonight we might put them on edge and send the pendulum of pressure their way.

Carlos has 5 xbase hits in July, none of them homers, and 6 RBIs. I am very much in favor of sitting him and going with Craig so Adams can get in the lineup. Carlos has not only been unproductive, he has looked like his energy level is down, both at the plate and in the field. Same with Freese, he has 4 xbase hits and 7 RBIs and looks lost.

Beltran, Freese, Jay and Kozma are contributing very little. That leaves 4 guys trying to carry the offense.

Jay has hit .344 with an OPS  of .900 in his last 11 games.

Kozma has hit .375 with an OPS of .831 in his last 10 games.

To add to that, I'd like to sit Holliday as well. Can't use Adams though as he's been slumping as well. Robinson has a low batting average so he's out too. Molina has only hit .288 this month. Take a seat jack.

So our lineup will be Craig and Carpenter.

Nope Craig is 0 for his last 12 he sits to...so it is just Carp.

Robinson is hitting .412 in July. Adams seems like he's been a spark plug. DD plays with energy and enthusiasm, unlike Freese lately. I'd go with those three and sit Beltran, Jay and Freese.

I keep expecting the reason for carrying 3 catchers to materialize, but not so far. There is a reason, though, we just don't know what it is. If the third catcher goes away right after the trade deadline, that would clarify things.

Carp is only 2 for his last 16 ABs.  He has to sit.  No one left to play the game.  Time to forfeit the game.

It has gotten to the point that sitting on my front porch watching the grass grow is more uplifting than hanging around Cardinals fans.

I think we forfeit the season because it's a lost cause anyway.

I think it's fun to find holes in flawed logic, but I am an engineer.

I'm telling you, the negativity will definitely go away once we have the best record in all of baseball. Then we can get swept one series and everyone will see the forest for the trees.

The funny part about it is that we still have the best winning percentage in all the majors.

What makes you feel that way? Could it be because you can't handle the truth/reality when "fans" point out that we have a "fake" ace, we only win against bad teams, we don't trade half our prospects for a "true" ace aka Cliff Lee, we don't get a new ss, cf, lf, and 3b, and finally criticize Mo whether he trades or not? Take off your Cardinal colored glasses and join them because ONLY them can see this team for what it really is. The rest of us are really just the blind leading the blind.

But you know that is only because we played the easiest schedule in baseball ;)

I admit we could keep counting on 3 or 4 guys to continue hitting .380 or whatever with RISP, to compensate for the lack of contribution from the others. I have no problem with everybody else wanting to hope that keeps on working down the stretch and into post-season. I personally do not have any faith that it will hold up.

Actually, that is not true. Just in the NL, Colorado and San Diego have played easier schedules and Miami and Arizona's opponents have the same winning percentage as St. Louis'. Only after playing the Cardinals all weekend did Atlanta pull ahead of St. Louis in schedule strength - by just .001. The Mets and Dodgers have also only .001 stronger opponents.

Seems like we are getting into a pattern here where some throw out "the truth," then others have to provide actual facts to refute it. Rinse and repeat.
