Has anyone seen a line on the number of "Cardinals dodged a bullet by letting Pujols walk" columns we are going to see this week?

Nope, but I would like to have a dollar for every one of them.  I have bills that need paying.

I'm just happy that the Cardinals are playing the Anegls in California and not STL!

Two personal reasons:

1) the local sports media (with one or two exceptions, is not a high-quality bunch) and the DJ types would be going over-board with Albert's return and the fact that he said "it will never be about money", etc., etc.

2) imho, and I'm 69+, Albert has been the most productive/most exciting Cardinal in my lifetime and I saw the tail-end of Musial's career at Sportmans Park. I am hopeful that someday Albert gets the ovation and respect that his 11 year St. Louis performance, and his service to the community, has earned him.  I think most of the hate over Albert's leaving will dissipate in 2-3 years.

forget about the "Albert stuff"

forget about the "Albert stuff"
the Cardinals have to win this Angel's series, or the season will a much different look going into the all-star break....

pitching is flat.....

obviously playing at a .650 pace was not to be sustained
but Cards (.605) need to get back on track

RE: 2013 MLB game 82 thread: Cards at Angels: Tue 7/2

The Angels had a better record than the Cardinals last month during a time in which the Cardinals SOS plummeted. The Angels are also on a six game winning streak, including a sweep at Detroit. Meanwhile, the Cardinals have lost six of eight.

Weaver has been struggling lately, but Lynn hasn't looked as sharp either and is 0-2 with a 7.71 ERA in five career interleague road starts. The gap between Lynn's home and road performances is widening; hopefully that trend is reversed tonight. No batter has more than a few AB's against the opposing pitcher, so there will be plenty of new exposure in the matchups.

The Angels are just 1-5 against the Pirates and Reds combined, by the way.

Turning things around in the middle of a west coast trip sounds kind of unlikely. I hope we do though.

I think the Pirates will end up fading. They've been riding their pen hard. It wouldn't surprise me to see them add a piece before the deadline. The Reds seem kind of snake bit this year. So I think we can take the division even with a considerable period of stumbling along.

The most important thing is to be hot at the end and going into post.

I wonder if Albert will try and turn it up a notch or two against us?  Would be just our luck for him to go on a tear these next three games.

I'll be tuning in for the first pitch, i think.  Hopefully my episode of Cannon will be over by 10:05 tonight.

maybe you need to take a closer look at the Pirates......

they are a legit team......and have been for the last 3 seasons....

planning on Pirates fading,
while I think the Cards can't beat them head-to-head (Today),
is a risk not worth taking...

need to win the AA series

the pirates, much like we were, are in a period where they are pitching out of their minds. The only difference is that our guys are more talented, they will come back down to reality.

I think this is a 3 team race but ultimately it will be between us and the reds in the final week or so for the division crown.

Also...I think washington gets back in this thing and competes for a spot....

With the way Lynn has been going lately, this game makes me edgy.  In fact, the whole 3-game series does.  It's time to step up and play like the #1 ranked team in all of baseball.  That's what this morning's USA Today is still saying.  Right now we need character and leadership.
