Win or lose - look good or bad - it would make sense to send Lyons down after this start and bring up another reliever or bench player for the next stretch of games. With off days next Monday, Thursday and following Monday you can still get the core starters an extra day off rest wise and still only use 4 starters until July 7th.

Good idea.  If he is brought back up before 20 days it would not burn an option year.

Vegas-

I think it's July 6.  We have 5 consecutive games starting the 2nd.  But I love the idea.  I kind of like the idea of Miller getting a couple extra days of rest, but you could have Lyons pitch again on July 3. after he's had his 10 days on the farm. Might be a chance for him to work on some adjustments, too.

I don't like the idea of Lyons starting at all.  He's such a soft-tossing left-hander who has to make perfect pitches he reminds me of Eddie Lopat.  I would much rather see Rosenthal or Siegrist in the rotation.  They throw hard and they throw strikes.  Rosenthal especially belongs--find somebody else to be the 8th inning man.

No way they are taking Rosenthal out of the 8th inning role. The Maness-Rosenthal-Mujica combination is working so why mess with it?

The 5th starter should be either Kelly, Martinez, Wacha, or maybe eventually Carp.

This should be a really fun series. I'm excited to see some Rangers fans back in the house. Last time I saw them at the ballpark they weren't having a very good night :-)

Holland has been a much better pitcher on the road than at home this year. He has struggled a bit against lefties. And after a pretty strong month of May, June has not been kind to him. Nor has it been kind to the Rangers in general.

I'll stand by my wish to have Rosenthal as the fifth starter.  We lost our closer for the season and set about the business of finding a suitable replacement; how has that worked out?  No reason we can't do the same with the 8th inning need.

Hitting 91 on the radar gun is not the definition of "soft tossing." I will agree that he must be very good with his location and pitching behind on the count does not serve him well.

I would argue that hitting 91 on the gun is extremely rare for him, and may in fact be his change-up.

Well, maybe we ought to chart his pitches tonight. BTW, the other young lefty, when is he supposed to come off the DL?

I'd be willing to do that but I don't own a radar gun and I live 200 miles from StL:)  Are you referring to John Gast by the way as that other lefty?

Are we going to see much of Puma?

I notice Berkman has almost exclusively been used as a DH this year and he's having a decent season. I'm hoping he gets an AB or maybe even a start at first so we can give him a nice welcome back. I sure loved having him in St. Louis - such a fun and classy guy.

We get the hint, Brosky. For those that do not know Brosky, that's his way of telling us what he wants for Christmas this year. I don't know about the roundtrip first class flight tickets to St.Louis, Brosky, but the new radar gun might be doable. Last year a bunch of us chipped in and got him an official game worn Julian Javier batting helmet....looks like this year Brosky is really swinging for the fences in the gift receiving department.

God willing, I'll be at the mic this evening calling half the action. Anyone game to join me in the booth?

Gast is no where near returning. He has the same injury that kept Brad Penny out from late May through the end of the season.

They have been very quiet about Gast. I see him in the dugout quite a few times and everyone was relieved it wasn't the shoulder but we haven't heard much about the severity of it.
