This will be the 2nd time I've seen Kelly pitch in person. Only difference is I'm driving 2,000 miles this time when the last time I took the train up to LA.

"•Apparently Arizona’s pitching plan against torrid Matt Carpenter was to hit him before he could hit them. That was uncalled for, so it is reasonable to expect the Cardinals to plunk at least one Diamondback hitter today. Given some of the candidates to pitch today, such an incident could be completely accidental."

I expect we will see at least one if not two Arizona players plunked tonight.  You dont hit the same guy three times in a game and expect to get away with it.  Since this is the last time we see Arizona (along with tomorrow night) i think there might be some warnings forthcoming in this one tonight.  This all may get started early too.

And like i asked in my other thread - what exactly does a warning from the umpire mean anyway?

So far as I know, Kelly hasn't done any conditioning to get the pitch count up.  He will have to be extra efficient to go 5 innings.

I think Goldschmidt needs to be the guy that takes one for the team for Arizona.

Or maybe two.   Having Kelly starting really makes my stomach a little queasy.

Speaking of slumping, during the homestand three guys especially have really struggled:
Kozma is 2/29
Jay is 2/25
Holliday is 4/23

On the homestand, Freese, Craig, Beltran, Molina, and Carpenter each have more hits than Robinson, Kozma, Jay, and Holliday combined. With Yadi out, Kelly on the mound, and an exhausted bullpen, we are going to need these guys to wake up against a tough Arizona ballclub.

I bet nobody gets plunked.  That is not Matheny's style.

I think Goldie better make sure his helmet fits snug tonight. If it was up to me it would be the pitcher that gets hit his first three times up regardless of warnings. You want to send a message? As soon as Miley squares to bunt you go after his hands. Now that sends a big message. It is a waste of time to plunk some power hitter in his tree trunk thighs.

GO CARDS!
