A 9:15 CT start means 10:15 ET.  That means I'll have to start my regular Friday night episode of Barnaby Jones no later than 9:30.  Without the commercials 45 minutes should cover it.

Nothing like supper, Barnaby Jones, a cigar and the Cardinals on a Friday night in southwestern Indiana!

The only good thing about that Beverly Hillbillies movie some years ago was the scene where Jed Clampett is missing and Miss Jane decides to hire a detective to fiind him... and visits Barnaby Jones in what was probably Buddy Ebsen's last screen appearance.

Series preview article posted. In addition to the Cards facing Skip and Big Mac for the first time, the Dodgers have been giving at-bats to Andy Van Slyke's son, Scott.

Yes, and benching Ethier to do so in a rather challenging manner.  Mattingly is taking a big chance in trying to fire up his team, and I'm glad he's done so.

We're going to see three straight lefties, one of which is Kershaw. Given our near MLB worst production against lefties I think our pitching will likely have to be exceptional to win the series.

Mattingly not only benched Ethier but basically called him out for not being a tough competitor.  Mattingly is feeling the pressure of that hot seat which apparently is getting pretty hot, I've heard his managerial status described as day to day in several places.  Nothing against Don, I don't really care one way or the other, but hopefully the Cards can make his seat a whole lot hotter this weekend!

Mattingly is an Indiana boy.  I played against him in American Legion baseball when he was with an Evansville legion team.  I hope the Redbirds sweep and then the Dodgers get hot and he does well.

No mention of the little lady on that list of your's, Rat? Also, I would think taking a little cruise around town in that new Porsche would crack your Top 5 list of things to do...wait!...that "new" car isn't so new any more is it? That baby has to be getting a little long in the fender by now. Getting ready to trade her in for a new model, Rat?....referring to the car, not the wife.

Tonight's game promises to be a dandy and God willing, I'll be right here ready to call all of the action...check that... half the action, which leaves the door wide open for one of the following PBP giants to join me in the booth:

Ducky Roosevelt Medwick
Bling
Mr.Perkins

I'll take the top(Cardinal) half innings and the first one of the above 3 PBP gems to speak up, can take the bottom half innings. May the force be with you....and our Cardinals!

Great to see Freese in there again. Do Mikes starters ever sit? Is anyone else concerned that this team may run out of gas late in the year? It is not even hot temps yet.

GO CARDS!

No wife here Pugs.  Wouldn't have that Porsche (and Mercedes) if I had a wife.  Still love the Porsche, get compliments on it all the time.  And sure is odd that you mention it since I just jumped in the Porsche and took it uptown to get some gas.  I am going to Evansville tomorrow and mess around - hopefully I find some college car washes..:)

However, now that you mention it, I am thinking about trading the Mercedes in for a Lotus Evora.  But, when I washed the Mercedes the other day I thought what a beautiful car this is, do I really want to trade it?

I have to hurry if I am going to shave, jump in the shower, get my Hungry Man TV dinner done, and get my Barnaby Jones episode watched before 10:15 ET.  Got me a banana cream pie from the amish restaurant last night, that's for dessert, and then the cigar!

You live a charmed life, Rat!!.....especially with that Amish banana cream pie in your belly.

We're only 10 minutes away from kicking this game off and yet still nary a volunteer to call the bottom half innings. Looks like since our 3 PBP Amigos are nowhere to be found tonight, we're going to have to expand our search to anyone with a pulse. Any takers?

Still nobody? Afraid that you don't have the qualifications to stand in from our 3 regular esteemed PBP gentlemen? Rest easy. Do this.....take a clear glass and blow real hard into it....if it even slightly fogs up then congratulations, you're alive and thus you qualify!

Top of 1     Chris Capuano at the helm for LA

Dodgers are 19-26 on the year. 11-13 at home. They have won 6 out of their last 11. Here at Dodger stadium they have won 10 out of the last 15 vs St.Louis.
Gametime temp. of 69 degrees with clear skies.

Carpenter- Interesting. He never had a successful sacrifice bunt before this year....has 2 this season. Slaps it on the ground to Ellis' left at 2nd...the Dodger 2nd baseman schuffles on over to glove it...over to Gonzalez at 1st and we have one down here in the 1st.

Beltran- Socks it deep to right!...Eithier drifts back...at the wall..and he has it for the out. Carlos just missed jerking that one out of here by a hair.....a few feet actually.

Holliday- Hits a hard grounder...Ellis nicely spears it on a hop and fires it on over to Gonzalez manning 1st to retire the side.

No problemo, Bling! You did a bang-up PBP job the other night and we look forward to your next game.

Really glad to see AJ Ellis is ok after the big collision at the plate with Jay, but for future reference Ellis maybe you should take the advice of Rube from Major League 2 when he said something to the effect of "Don't stand on the track when the train is coming through, butthead"

RE: 2013 MLB game 47 thread: Cards at Dodgers: Fri 5/24

Top of 2   Dodgers did not score in the bottom of the 1st. Yadi nailed Crawford trying to swipe 2nd.

Craig- 5-8 with 1 dong, lifetime vs Capuano. Rolls one up the line that skirts the chalk at 3rd...a charging Uribe gloves it and fires it across the diamond to the waiting glove of Adrain Gonzalez at 1st and Craig is out.

Yadi- Grounds one to short where ex-Redbird Nick Punto scoops it up and slings it to 1st for out #2.

Jay- Rolls a tidy little grounder to Gonzalez at 1st and....he throws it away!....Adrian's flip to a charging Capuano sailed way wide right and Jay reaches safely. Boy, Gonzalez had more hook on his flip than Waino's best curveball.

Freese- Puts a charge into one to left!!...and it's over Crawfords head and rolls to the wall....Jay's rounding 3rd and we're going to have a play at the plate....the relay from Punto...Jay bowls Ellis over and the ball sqirts away as Jay scores...and Freese motors around to 3rd...1-0 Cards! And the Dodger catcher is down and obviously hurt. Score that a double for Freese and a throwing error by Punto. And Ellis looks shaken up, but he's going to continue here. Not very often when you see a catcher call it a night...especially considering the hazardous duty the perform.

Kozma- Walks.

Lynn- Strikes out swinging.
