For Peoria, Josh Lucas through 5 IP, 8 runs allowed but only 1 of them earned. Two errors by him, two by SS Mejia. Rasmus with a triple in two ABs.

I find it ridiculous that when a pitcher commits an error, or in Josh Lucas' case, multiple fielding miscues, resulting subsequent runs scored are not charged to the pitcher's era....geesh if anything they should tack on a run or two.

If I have calculated correctly, with a hit and a walk in his first 2 plate appearances tonight his OBP at this moment is .500 - amazing!

Cleto took the loss. 5 IP, 4 R, 5 H, 4 BB, 4 K. 90 pitches, 55 strikes.
Boggs had a K and a BB in 1 IP. 18 pitches, 9 strikes.

Both pretty inefficient.

Well just by looking at the line and his strike-to-ball ratio he struggled with his control which isn't surprising. Good news is Cleto is contiuning to get an opportunity to work on his full repertoire of pitches in those 5 innings pitched.

It wasn't quite as bad as the final line indicated either. Had he ended his night after 5 innings and not started the 6th, it would have been 5 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 K. 75 pitches, 49 strikes. Given that he's still stretching out a little bit and the bullpen let 3 runs in after he left, it's not as though he was a world beater, but there's a hidden line in there that's actually rather encouraging.

Goold, in his chat, implied that Boggs was doing well enough to merit a return sooner rather than later.  My feeling is, "What's the hurry?"

The guys in the pen are mostly watching the grass grow, not really enough work to stay sharp.

If anything, we should go with one less pitcher and one more position player.

I agree why stop what's working.  Maness and Martinez is working right now.  Boggs would probably go back into mop up roles when he gets back until he can show he has got it back against MLB batters.  My main thing is have he got his mechanics back yet? If not all his success in AAA mean nothing at all because he will revert back at a moments notice to his bad self.  Leave it as it is for now is the thing to do.

C-mart needs to go down to get regular work. When Westbrook comes back, I'd be inclined to send Martinez to Memphis and keep Gast as our second lefty... Assuming he does well, of course.
