Re: Westbrook to DL

Well that might well change where Carp is headed if Carp can, indeed, make his return.  I wonder if Boggs will be back soon with Kelly down to AAA to join the rotation, both to get himself more right and to become another option if the major league rotation needs him.

Derrick Goold tweets

"A terse, pointed # Cardinals GM John Mozeliak on Westbrook's elbow inflammation: "It’s really not that big of a deal. Didn’t want to push it"

Doesn't appear that will happen as Westbrook injury is not that big of deal that just didn't want to push it. Although elbow is always a concern. Gast will fill in fine in his absence in the rotation for three starts.

Re: Westbrook to DL

I've read elsewhere that Gast has a nasty pickoff move. Any truth to this?

Also, even though he has been struggling, I'm kind of surprised they jumped Joe Kelly with the start. In a way it makes me like Matheny even more, in the fact he is going to go with the hot young hand over someone with ML experience.

DT-

Thanks.  That's encouraging, but I'll wait and see.

FWIW, Matheny sounded more positive to me about Rzep than about Boggs when I heard his program today.

I'm so bullish on this team and its farm system, my only thought when I heard Gast was coming up to start was what will the team do it he is lights out for 2 games!

Re: Westbrook to DL

Will be interesting to see when Westbrook makes it back and if Gast has been successful, if they give Gast the chance as the 2nd lefty in pen. When Mo was being interviewed Friday night during the third inning of the broadcast, he mentioned something along the line that they do not want to go much longer with only 1 lefty in the pen.

At the time made me think scrabble would be back quick if he had a couple of more clean outings. This would open up another avenue to accomplish the 2nd lefty option.

Carioca-

Coming from you, especially, that gives me a lot of hope.  Long run I agree.  But I wonder about the next month or so.

Gast had 32 pickoffs over the last three seasons and five already this year.

Re: Westbrook to DL

Can someone tell me what Gast is like?  hard thrower or finesse?  good control?  sinkerballer?  etc, etc.

If he does well - are we on the verge of another Gast House Gang?

Any of you young guys want to make your g/f laugh? Next time she says something stupid while trying to be funny(you shouldn't have to wait long), laugh hysterically for about 4 seconds and then stop on a dime and be completely expressionless while looking right at her. If you have even the slightest hint of a smile on your face then you've blown it. If you do it right, you'll have them catering to your every whim for the remainder of the night. Now I'm not trying to get Rat to do any catering in my direction, but if he told the above joke in my presence, I wouldn't be able to resist doing that little routine. I'm simply aghast that he'd even attempt something so outlandish.

That's simply not fair. This Gast fellow pitching with Yadi catching? A runner at 1st base would have almost 0 chance to steal....and about a 50/50 shot at not getting picked off....a 1st base coach's worst nightmare.

Are you Tired? the manager asked the new lefty.

No, I'm Gast, the lefty replied.

After 15 years of marriage I have found coming out of the bathroom in full view of wife/GF type with no kids in area to place towel at waist and perform a sumo dance for her.. Standard sumo type grunts and thigh slaps add to chaos..
Just my 2 cents is alltongue

I definitely do not want Boggs back.  We've been winning since he left. Keep him in Memphis where he can't do any damage.

And we won last year with Boggs.  If he's back in form he's a plus.
