Despite the terrible ERA, Gee has probably been the Mets best pitcher (of the 4 we will see of course, excluding Harvey) recently, so we need to get the bats going early and not let him settle in and get confident.  Good news is, if its a tight game late and we have a very important runner on the basepaths we now know that we can always pinch run with the fastest player in the game: Ty Cobb....I mean Wigginton

Is Gast comparable to Tom Glavine, perhaps?

Right now, only in the sense that they are both lefthanded and both breathing.  A little too early for that; just as it's too early to be comparing C-Mart to Pedro.

Perhaps after today's game we can acknowledge that both their names begin with G.

Legends have to start somewhere.tongue

I meant, of course, the fact that he's a lefty that has control, paints the corners, holds runners well, and his changeup is his best pitch.

Will probably need a win tonight to stay 2.5 games ahead of them scoundrels from Great American Ballpark.  They lead Miami 6-1 in the 2nd inning in south Florida.  Nolasco with control problems and Xavier Paul finally burned him with a bases clearing double.

Ok, it appears The DuckStar has flown the coup for tonight's affair. Anybody else want to grab the bull by the horns and call the top or bottom half innings?

top 1

john gast starts his big league career with a strike.

turner k swinging, woo-hoo!!!

murphy grounds to 3b, diving stop by freese, on to craig for the out!!!

wright grounds it off the end of the bat, gets it past gast, to craig, flips it to gast covering 1st, not in time.  infield single.

buck grounds into fielder's choice, 6-4.

welcome to the big leagues, kid!!!  0-0, cards coming to bat.

Re: 2013 MLB game 38 thread: Mets at Cards: Tue 5/14

Bottom of 1     Gee taking command of the hill for the Metropolitans.

Carpenter- Walks on an inside 3-2 change to start things off for the Redbirds.

Beltran- Slaps a one-hopper right at Davis and this could be 2...over to...Davis hits Carpenter with his throw and it squirts out past shortstop and into short left!!....Turner retrieves it, but Carpenter will check in at 3rd with Beltran staying at 1st. This sure sets the stage for a nice inning here.

Holliday- Launches a deep drive to right-center!....Lagares races back....it it just slips on over his glove and against the wall...MCarp scores....and Beltran holds at 3rd on the rbi double off the bat of the Cardinal left-fielder! Boy, Beltran should have scored on that play, but he kind of dogged it rounding 2nd.

Craig- Lines a grounder right on back up the middle and out into center for a hit...Beltran jogs in and there's going to be a play at the plate...Holliday scores and the throw down to 2nd is tardy as well as Craig beats the throw from Buck!!!....3-0 Cards.

Yadi- Laces a little liner to short right...Byrd races in and corrals in waist high for the out.

Jay- Walks.

Freese- Strikes out gazing....gee whiz!!...the Met pitcher goes sprinting for his dugout thinking there were 3 outs...how embarrasing!....golly I learned to count to 3 when I was like 2.....well, we're all human they say.

Kozma- Strikes out swinging, but the Cardinals race out of the blocks by laying a 3-spot on the Mets in the 1st frame.

top 2

cards get the rookie a nice lead, let's see what he can do with it.

duda rips a ball to craig, he snags it and steps on the bag.

byrd grounds out 5-3, great pick by freese.

davis grounds out 3-1.

the kid looks good, 3-0 cards mid 2.

Yadi has Gast coming inside a lot to both righties and lefties. Gast hitting the mitt pretty well. Its great to see a guy not afraid of the inside corner. Most likely, he's afraid of Yadi.
