Wigginton is the only Cardinal that has faced Hefner before. The Mets have 20 combined AB's versus Lynn so not much to speak of there either. The matchup does seem favorable though; Lynn hasn't lost back to back starts, the Mets offense is bad, and they can't seem to win when Hefner is on the mound.

This is the beginning of a four game series that we have a real shot at winning. Look at the probable starters and tell me what is missing: Hefner, Gee, Marcum, Niese. After seeing those four names my expectations for this series rose significantly.

very happy not to have to hear about the wunderkind this series, but also would have liked to see us slap him around a bit.  looks like 3 out of 4 is feasible, with a 4 game sweep not out of the possibility...go cards!!!

the mets are a miserable team and franchise.  thank you Lord that you made me a cards' fan even if many of friends root for the mets and I grew up in new york!!!

In addition to the early start for ESPN tonight, this is the MLB.TV free game of the day.

You guys beat me to it, when I checked out the probables and saw no Harvey I was quite excited.  It's really hard to play a 4 game set and not have to face the team's ace, we got lucky on this one.  I was also pretty excited when I looked at their probables and saw three ERA's of 5+ and the other just under 5.

BTW, Ducky we never have to face the "wunderkid," he plays for us; people call him Shelbywink

ha, you're preaching to the choir, erob!!!  I guess the ny media doesn't care that shelby is 2 years younger and an actual rookie, but hey, touting the greatness of the texan playing the midwest doesn't sell papers in queens.

Bring them on! Let these three words resonate in the minds of Cardinal Nationers everywhere. Fear not the Harveys, Lees, Cains, Greinkes and Blasingames of the world. Not since the '97 Packers have I felt more confident with one of my favorite teams. We Redbird fans shouldn't give a hoot who we are playing, what pitchers are slated to face us and where the games are to be played. If anything we should throw out the welcome mat for upper echelon hurlers preparing to toe the rubber against our Cards. When I found out this morning that Harvey wasn't scheduled to pitch in this series, I almost had to fight off a tear or two.

Wow I was unaware that Houston had even cut Rick....last I checked a couple weeks ago he was probably their best hitter not named Altuve

I'm starting Lynn in fantasy baseball tonight. Strikeouts are a big part of our scoring system. And I just found out Ankiel will play for the Mets. Jackpot. Ring 'em up!

Not sure about the standing O thing? If this were Ank's farewell series, then yes, I'd get up and hoot and holler. But, he's drifted through Busch with just how many different teams now? Besides, let us not forget that no matter how much he's loved, he's still the enemy. If we think the Mets are going to trapze in here and lay down, then we'd better think again. I expect a nice round of applause when Ank steps to the dish in his first ab, but nothing overly rowdy.

Thought I'd mention 55 years ago today Stan Musial got his 3000th hit. Drove in a run with a double.

Im not big on matchups It seems like when I think we have the upper hand in pitching matchups they lose so I just hope we get a good start from starter and offense performs..

Lost in our great pitching recently has been poor execution/baserunning...law of averages i guess...i cant believe craig was caught so far off second with two outs...
