Well, you can't say Mike didn't give Mitchell a chance to make it right. I do feel bad for the guy, he wasn't trying to pitch poorly, but this had to happen and it should have happened sooner. Hope he figures it out in the minors.

Will be interesting to see what type of situation MM selects to debut Martinez.

Congrats to Martinez.  Hope Mitchell gets it figured out.

We now need to send Kelly down and call up Gast.

Either Kelly or Salas will work for me.

Kelly is getting pounded every night. He needs to go down and get straightenend out.

My take is here: "Martinez to replace Boggs in Cards pen"

I am very worried that too much will be expected from Martinez. All he has to do is replace Boggs plus Scrabble, Kelly, Salas and Choate.

I agree with you Brian... Ive already seen some people saying that Martinez should close... Completely neglecting the fact the kid has never done that at any level let alone thrown a single big league inning..

If Martinez can come in and pitch the 7th inning like we try to have Boggs do, that would be enough for him.

He looks so young! twitter.com/Tsunamy27/status/3...9691394/photo/1

Brian your point is a good one - not that people expect Martinez to be better than he is, but that the margin of error is dangerously slim right now.

I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to throw something at the wall and see if it sticks.

if you'd have told me before the year that boggs and scrabble would be at AAA at the same time after being sent down i wouldnt have believed you.

Hopefully everyone involved gets/keeps their head on straight.   we'd all love martinez to come up and put up an ERA under 3 and a lot of k's but we'll see what happens.

Lucky guess on my part.

I just hope that calling him up so early - both in terms of his career and in terms of his not having had the benefits of any sort of spring training - doesn't do him permanent harm.

I reserve judgment.

Hope it all works out.

I am with you Jerry. In fact IMO this is a huge gamble and not even necessary. PANIC MOVE!

GO CARDS!

Re: Boggs down, Martinez up

I really think they didn't want to do this until June but I am thinking that this may be a temporary move or at least until the all star break at which point they'd probably send him to Memphis. I hope he proves well. i prefer having him as a starter but his future may be as a reliever. Rosenthal's place is definitely on the starting staff sooner or later. With Miller, Lynn, Garcia(for awhile) and Rosenthal the rotation looks pretty solid in the future. I just hope he does well.

I have no issue with the team using young guys to fill roles... Just rather see those same young guys take those roles when their skills and experience warranted it instead of being thrown against the wall and see if they stick so to speak..
i really think that Rosie has been thrown into very high pressure role and is over throwing and not relaxing  on the mound.. Just my opinion is all..
Would really hate to see a young player ruined by failure of the team to protect him at a vulnerable point in his development..
Do you see Boggs or C-Mart ion a Cards uni in 3 seasons from today?

You know, this move worries me a bit.  At the same time, this ownership and management has absolutely earned some leeway.  They tend to make the right moves. We'll see how things go, and how he's used.
