RE: 2013 MLB game 20 thread: Cards at Nats: Tue 4/23

Cardinals have alternated wins and losses each of their last nine games. April 9-13 was the last winning streak, April 3-4 the last losing streak. Hopefully a new winning streak starts tonight.

Wainwright has not been good at Washington, going 1-2 with a 7.24 ERA and 2.195 WHIP. His SO/BB rate is fine there, but when he gets hit he gets hit hard. In 70 PAs at Nationals Park, Wash's BAbip is .500.

Nobody on our roster has more than 8 AB's vs Detwiler (Wiggington).

I will be there tonight!  Headed up to DC here in the next hour, very excited to see Waino going, hoping he can show these Nats fans what he is all about.  As you mentioned DMENS Waino has been pretty terrible against them in the past, the Nats fans I know have a foolish opinion that he's not that great of a pitcher because of this, so I'm hoping tonight he shows them what he's really about and keeps me from having to endure too much ridicule in the stands tonight

You are right about Mujica.

As for Waino, I think he wants very badly to shut them down tonight to make up for that 6-0 hole he put us in in Game 5 last NLDS.

That was a shocker last year to me. Never saw that coming. My guess is Waino will make them pay too. The top pitchers are way ahead of hitters right now IMO. Part b/c it is early and part b/c of the weather. Calling this one 3-2 Cards for the second game in a row. Holli is due to go yard. excitedexcitedexcited

You can't be any worse than that horrible horn honker we just heard in Pittsburgh, Erob. Talk about not being able to carry a tune....that character couldn't even lift it an inch off the ground, let alone carry it. But with that being said, they was something indelibly likable about the guy. The Pirate fans must also find something endearing about him as well because as hideously awful as he was, nobody put an end to his "sweet" music. Oh, if I may, I'd like to request a tune if you would be so kind to play it out there in the left field seats tonight, Erob. I think "My Old Kentucky Home" would be a very nice touch.

PS....Duckstar- as long as too many fellow posters don't raise Cain, I'll toss my hat into the PBP ring for this evening's game. Your choice as to what half innings.

Still a little early but he has been impressive other than some first game control issues. With what he showed in ST and last year in the minors i believe we will be watching Wacha soon in St.Louis. With Lynn being 3-0 i think He could start in the pen and then move into that #6 role ahead of Kelly. I personally would like to see it now b/c he should be an immediate boost to the team. You still have the option of sending him back if he is not ready. If he is good enough then i think he should be promoted right now. This guy and Rosenthall will be ahead of Lynn, Westie and Garcia soon if they are not already in terms of ability.

GO CARDS!

The last few weeks have demonstrated that it is not just about loading up with hot arms. That said, I hope he gets here soon, too. Sort it out later.

Let me get this straight:  it's because Lynn is 3-0 that you want to move him to the bullpen and bring up Wacha?

Re: 2013 MLB game 20 thread: Cards at Nats: Tue 4/23

I think the overuse of pronouns is a tad confusing.  the way I read it, was that since lynn is 3-0, he (wacha) could start in the pen and then move into the #6 role.

I don't think  he was saying to move lynn to the pen b/c he is 3-0.  an argument can be made about moving lynn to the pen based upon advanced stats and need of the team, but that will probably open a can of worms...lol.

Who are we replacing in the bullpen with Wacha?

You know Matheny won't part with his lovebirds Salas and Boggs without a fight.

Re: 2013 MLB game 20 thread: Cards at Nats: Tue 4/23

Perhaps MLB should consider eliminating the 40 man roster requirement in favor of an Expandable Roster.  That way, each team could have a continuous conveyor belt of  players moving up and down depending on who is the flavor of the month and who is in a slump.  Teams could save money by eliminating this Player Development nonsense.
