Might be catching the Pirates at a bad time.  They just swept the Reds, coming from 5-0 down late yesterday.  Be nice to take two of three this series.

Good to see Adams getting a rest after strenuously trotting around the bases yesterday. If he keeps up that repetitious activity he could get carpal tunnel of the ankles. It takes a man of vision to sit the team hitting and HR leader. Save him for later when wins count for more.

Like Jaime, Lance has a history of wearing down, so I hope Mike remembers to pull him even if he has a shutout going. Jaime will probably remind him if he forgets.

Fastball spiked UP in August/September of 2012.

Injured his abdomen/oblique at the end of 2011.

Gotta think Lynn is the guy to cool down the red hot Buccos. Hopefully we can get the win tonight and put more pressure on the Reds to keep up early. I think I might do some PBP tonight.

Coming out of the pen will do that to the FB velocity.  Lance was pulled from the rotation for 3 weeks late August to mid-September due to poor performance.  The thinking being he was worn down.  (Due to being fat and not in great shape, thus the new fit Lance this year).

Or he could just be playing the role he was brought up to play, and the one he accepts as the role he was brought up to play.  Of course, he probably doesn't realize there are fans who are so much smarter than the people who are paid to run the team, so maybe he will be clued in soon and gather y'all up to stage a coup d'etat. cool

Right. Only a weak manager lets actual events alter the original plan. Eventually, Adams' torrid streak will end. At which point we can congratulate ourselves for not being duped into taking advantage of it while it lasted.

McDonald is 4-1 with a 2.27 ERA against the Cardinals in his career. Last year he tortured us by going 2-0 with no earned runs in 13 innings. Both games were in August.

Craig and Yadi hit him best with slash lines of .308/.357/.692/1.049 and .500/.556/1.000/1.556 respectively. Each has a HR. Unfortunately after that no one has had much success against McDonald worth speaking of. Holliday is just 2/15 and Beltran is 3/16.

With a hot Pirates at home and a favorable matchup on the mound, this projects to be a tough one for the Cardinals. If Lance can come out like he did last start though it should be a good game. Let's get a win!

Thanks for the research.  I wouldn't have known McDonald has our number.

Or maybe the "weak" manager and his coaches and his GM and other experts at his disposal have determined that 12 PAs don't warrant changing horses in midstream.  And maybe when there are a sufficient number of PAs to suggest wholesale change, such changes will be made.  But that is little solace to those who have the patience of a gnat overdosed on speed.  cool

And maybe these same people have determined that sitting players who are in a slump for a prolonged period of time is counterproductive, and could lead to even worse consequences for the lineup when the aforementioned "torrid streak" ends.

We haven't won a series opener yet.

Pirates are playing well. Could be some drama tonight.

I think there is something to be said about playing the hot hand especially against a pitcher that seems to have Beltran's number.

Sorry! Forgot Milwaukee.

We should have had 2-3 runs easy. Jay must have not been looking when it hit off the wall. 1-0

FWIW, I believe MM has previously indicated he doesn't believe in the "hot hand".
