2013 MLB game 10 thread: Brewers at Cards: Fri 4/12

The original matchup Friday was Shelby Miller and Yovani Gallardo, but with Milwaukee's rainout in Chicago Wednesday, Kyle Lohse will get the start instead. Seems appropriate given Miller essentially took Lohse's rotation spot.

Game time will be 7:15 PM CT. FOX Sports Midwest and KMOX.

It will be Stan Musial Harmonica Night at Busch. The Musial family will be taking part in pre‐game ceremonies that include a dedication of a plaque in Stan’s honor and members of the family throwing out the ceremonial first pitches. Fans will receive a commemorative Stan Musial harmonica and a replica window cling of the #6 patch the players are wearing on their sleeves.

Why do you think it would be anything but positive?

I wouldn't be surprised if Lohse got a standing ovation.

So do we think Adams will get the start Friday?

He is out OPSing Carlos and Allan combined by like 700 pts. Sitting someone that hot would be so TLR-like I would puke. And enough of hitting him 7th already. Show Big Stick some respect.

I'm not going to be at this game (ironically traveling to Milwaukee tonight) but I would give Lohse a nice ovation if I were there. I hope that's the kind of response he gets from the crowd.

Of course, his percentages are higher in far fewer PA's than the other two - but as hot as Adams has been this week, I don't see the Cards benching either Beltran or Craig to get him in the lineup, at least not on a regular basis.  He's going to be getting some playing time, though - figure giving Holliday, Beltran and Craig each one day off a week; that gives Adams three starts a week plus his PH duties.  Not great, but the best we can do until the DH comes to town.

Beltran is 22 for 39 (.564/.647/1.026/1.673) with 4 HR, 12 RBI, and 11 BB's against Lohse. No way he sits today even as hot as Adams is.

That leaves you with Craig or Adams at first. Craig hasn't played since Tuesday so he's rested but he also hasn't hit the ball well this year thus far. On top of that, his career numbers against Milwaukee are not strong. I think there's a fair case to go with Adams over Craig, especially considering Adams is hot.

At the risk of getting my head chopped off by the "Holliday is legend" crowd there is a third option. Beltran, Holli and Craig have all played in 8 of 9 games with none of the three getting on track just yet. Carpenter, Kozma and Adams are carrying the club right now offensively so you have to start Adams IMO. I am not advocating anyone in particular sit tonight just that it should be discussed and not just left between Craig and Beltran.

GO CARDS!

Shocked and a bit dismayed over the Adams snub here. I don't care if "Big Country" was 0-124 lifetime vs Lohse, the man is absolutely raking at the moment. As poker brat Phil Helmueth is known to say, "you never get off a hot hand"...well Matheny just threw trip aces into the muck.

Pugs, you are looking at this all wrong.  Today would have been the day Adams would have started a slump.  The team is preventing that and giving him a day off. devil

So if Adams were to keep hitting for say 2 months, you would sit Craig on the bench that long?  Or Beltran?

Adams was not put on the roster to be a starter.  Just because he doesn't play every single day doesn't mean he will stop hitting.  Give the guy some credit, he knew he was going to be a bench player.

RE: 2013 MLB game 10 thread: Brewers at Cards: Fri 4/12

Big league managers rarely make lineup decision when the main factor is the hot hand. Usually they go with history, and in relatively recent years they might put in a guy that has had success against a particular pitcher.

So it does not surprise me that Big Country is not in the starting lineup. He'll get his chances though. And with him not starting, he's a pretty good weapon to have in a late game, runners on base situation should the need for runs arise.

The other way to look at it is that Holliday, Craig and Beltran are going to hit better than they have so far, so maybe some of that gravitation towards the mean for them occurs tonight.

Exactly.   Which is why all this hyperventilation over this guy and that guy so early in the season just blows my mind.  Everyone take deep, slow breaths.
