while this game on paper is cards vs marlins, its actually miller vs kelly...I think they will both get a decent amount of starts this year regardless, but would hope miller gets the nod.

It makes sense to get as many looks at Taveras in CF as possible since we already know he could play RF at ML level. It does point put the problem of no leadoff hitter without Jay.

A regular season lineup with Taveras in CF might look like this:

Carpenter 4
Taveras 8
Holiday 7
Craig 3
Beltran 9
Molina 2
Freese 5
Kozma 6
Pitcher

Or . . .

Carpenter 4
Taveras 8
Holiday 7
Craig 9
Adams 3
Molina 2
Freese 5
Kozma 6
Pitcher

Impressive thumpage either way.

It's been suggested that the Cards might start the season with Kelly in the rotation and Miller in the bullpen, then switch them mid-season (depending, I suppose, on how Kelly is doing) which would keep Miller's IP count under control, since he'd only have 40-50 IP by that point instead of 100 or more.

nice line-up blingboy,

I think the Cards look to "move" John Jay....

I love the way John Jay plays the game and how he fields, but his bat was gone late last season.....and in the playoffs....can't have a lead off hitter not getting on base....

I just think about Bryce Harper, and Oscar looks as good (or better)
than Bryce Harper...

Maybe so, but I conider it more likely Adams will be the one to go.

Jay will likely be a gold glove center fielder who hits .300 and can lead off. He's streaky, but so was Albert, and I also didn't like the crunch time fade.

It could depend on what we could get, though. If Jay continues his upward trajectory, on offense and defense, he will be quite valuable in trade. I'm not so sure Adams will be able to increase his value as a part time player or in Memphis.

Could it be both?  I know the Rangers are an easy team to point at because they've got the SS we want (one way or another... they've got 2 really good ones) but they could use a 1b, CF, and pitching, and we've got all of the above.

Wrong thread to get into a trade discussion probably, but I had that thought enter my mind the other day and it seemed somewhat appropriate.

Peter Gammons just tweeted this morning quoting Rangers GM Jon Daniels that Andrus will not be traded.

Other Cards pitchers available today (though hopefully they will not be used): Rosenthal, Boggs, Salas, Cleto, Choate.

Reminder that the Cards have their third and final off-day of the spring on Wednesday.

Hadn't thought of that. It would be strange if it is position players rather than the abundance of pitchers that end up in "the big one", if Mo pulls off a big one. In baseball you never know what will happen until it does.

Maybe the wrong thread, but think of it as pre-game chatter.

hope Cards do NOT trade Matt Adams, this soon is his career....

his potential looks very high......never know about injures....

I think Holiday has 2 more years on his contract and Beltran has one more year....

Gameday shows Miller at 27 pitches thru 4IP. Turner has 20 thru 3.

Matheny was not worried about starting to get Miller stretched out. We'll see how long Kelly goes.

I don't think anybody wants to trade Adams, including Mozeliak. But if you could get a primo SS like Tulo or Profar for him as part of a package, you would have to be interested. It doesn't appear that that is going to happen though, so it'll
be fun seeing how this ultimately works out.

Gameday doesn't accurately track pitch counts in ST.

As Tim McCarver once wrote (or was it Bob Uecker?), "potential" is just a fancy word for "ain't done nothin' yet." tongue
