Spring training opener: Cards at Marlins, Sat. 2/23
From B.J. Rains: "Trevor Rosenthal will start the spring training opener on Saturday. Michael Wacha will be first to relieve him." His dad adds: "Each to throw 2 ings, about 40 pitches."
The 1 PM ET game will be on KMOX. No TV.

P.S. In case anyone missed them, I posted the team photos taken yesterday morning on the home page. Player profiles have also been updated with the new shots.

I just looked at them. There's something about Matt Holliday's photo that makes me laugh. And not in a good way. He looks kinda goofy.

Roll call for photos was 7:00 A.M. - not everyone's best time of the day, perhaps...

Question for the board, those 16 players that accompanied the 40 man roster to Florida, are they allowed to plan in ST games?
Thank you.

Thank you. AS far as I know, any player in the organization (from any level) can play.

Thank you. Yes. In fact, they often include players late in games from minor league camp, too. Here is one such example from last spring. Jose Oquendo is on the left. A player with the number 91 but no name on his back is on third base. Everyone knows who he is now. He has a official invitation and moved up to number 87 this spring!

Jason Motte looks like he wants to bite someone's head off, and Joe Kelly looks like someone gave him a wedgie.
Matt just looks tired.

As far as Holli goes this does not surprise me in the slightest. That is one "laid back" guy right there despite how some want to portray him. That is not a bad thing i am just saying it is not surprising to me. At least he is not wearing an earring like one cement footed infielder the Cards had in camp a couple of years ago.

Finally, real baseball (exhibition style). Lineup vs. Marlins: Jay 8, Descalso 4, Holliday 7, Beltran 9, Molina 2, Freese 5, Wigginton DH, Adams 3, Kozma 6, (Rosenthal P).
Furcal and Craig are the only regulars not starting.

From Rob Rains: Matheny says Cards are being cautious with Craig's achy right shoulder which is reason he is not in starting lineup today.

Re: Spring training opener: Cards at Marlins, Sat. 2/23
Our old friend Donovan Solano is playing 2nd base and hitting 5th today for the Marlins. Going to be a long year for Florida with the line-up they have. It will be interesting to see how much their first two hitters have left in the tank. Pierre and Polanco both appear to be on the wrong side of 30 all of a sudden. Anyhow, 2013 is underway as Jon Jay walks to start it off.

Yes they went to an interview with Tom Stillman new owner of the Blues. I am following on Gameday, still trying to figure out how Miami got a run. 1-0 Miami in the 1st.

Re: Spring training opener: Cards at Marlins, Sat. 2/23
Per Derrick Goold
"Trevor Rosenthal throws 22 pitches in the first inning, 18 strikes. Down 2-0 after allowing three hits. No gun handy for mph. It's February."
Marlins lead 2-0 top 2nd.
