MLB Network top 10 players by position "Right Now"

Some of you may have been watching this MLB Network series, in which multiple commentators share and debate their personal "Best of" lists by position. A writer I know, Paul Sporer, has been watching all of these shows, recording the votes and offering his commentary. (link)

The latest is left field, where Matt Holliday comes in between second and fifth.

Hardly earth-shattering, but decent hot stove fodder.

Allen Craig was 6th ahead of Konerko and behind Tex

They mentioned Bill James saying watch minor league stats cause they mean something and that Craig has always slugged .500 in the minors.

I think they have actually been ranking these defensively heavy. In a fantasy draft for example i dont think many people would take tex before craig...but tex has a great glove where craig doesnt.

Maybe due to this yadi could grab the top spot...who knows..

I doubt it - but there's no disgrace in Yadi finishing second to Posey.  I'd be more upset if they rated Martin or Napoli or McCann or somebody ahead of Yadi.

I'm amused, of course, because I remember a few years ago a rather heated discussion that ensued on a board (I'm not sure if it was this one or Gateway Redbirds) when I suggested that Yadier Molina was a better overall catcher than Joe Mauer.

As for Craig, I'm very happy he's rated as highly as he has.  He was on MLB Network last night, too, answering questions and showing off Torty, who's alive and well.

I was rather hoping Craig would at least crack the Top Ten, because he's not really someone who the general public thinks of - not yet.  *We* know how good he is, though, which is why I was irritated with the suggestion that we trade him for pitching or a shortstop or something and hand 1B over to Matt Adams.

Molina #2

Bill James said you can't go wrong with he or posey. Valle said he was torn on which one but took Posey.
