You'll probably be able to see a lot more of him if he is in minor league camp already.

Re: Cardinals announce spring training NRIs

I always mention this after someone asks, so this time I'll beat them to the punch:

We invite all these catchers to camp because someone's got to catch all those pitchers.  8 catchers as major-league camp opens is quite typical.  And as soon as pitchers start getting cut (generally right after minor-league camp opens a week or so later) most of those catchers will be cut along with them.  Of the NRI catchers, Towles is the only one who might stick, but I suspect he's probably earmarked for Memphis unless Cruz were to get hurt or something.

When I am at spring training I usually go to the minor league camp in the morning where they are having batting practice and drills on four separate fields. Then when the parent team is traveling I go to the minor league camp where at 1:00 p.m there are at least 3 games going on and you can sit where you can see all of the fields.

If Taveras is not still with the parent team when you get down there you can see plenty of him at the minor league camp.

I remember going there in 2002 and the minor league scene was pretty grim. The only player I was impressed with was Yadier Molina.

A little suprised that Juan Castillo was not one of the catchers invited.

The list of early invitees to minor league camp has 10 pitchers and 2 catchers. How does that work?

The first cuts from major league camp occurred after Monday's game.

Jesus Montero has a brother with the exact same name??? What kind of parents name their two boys Jesus? I guess one advantage as a kid would be that if you accidentally fired a baseball thru your front picture window, you could tell your dad that Jesus did it and then your brother would be the one on the receiving end of dad's belt....you couldn't get nailed for lying.
