I haven't heard very much regarding cardinals participating in the World Baseball Classic, other than Jaime for Mexico and Yadi and Beltran for Puerto Rico. Is anyone else participating? No waino, holliday, freese, or craig for america? Is there anywhere I can find this? The WBC website isn't too helpful to this point, do I just need to be patient and wait for the provisional rosters, or am i missing updates?

If he decided against going under the knife for rest and rehab then this is an event he needs to avoid.

RE: WBC
MLB Network will officially announce Team USA at 9 a.m. CT Thursday with the other countries at 3 p.m. CT. Of course, some names will leak out before then.

RE: WBC
Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports that to protect pitchers, there will be lower pitch counts in this year's WBC – 65 per game in first round, 80 in second, 95 in semis/finals, down from 70-85-100 in 2009.

RE: WBC
Does anyone know if the Cardinals plan to play a WBC team during spring training this year? I remember last time around, I got to see the Cardinals play the Dominican team, which was pretty amazing.

Did someone decide that those were a bad idea? As a fan, it was really neat. I got to see Big Papi ride in on a golf cart during warmups wearing his diamond encrusted sunglasses. Hanley Ramirez was taking BP and Marmol was getting some work in down in the pen. It was very cool.

RE: WBC
There isn't much time, as they seem to have compressed the WBC schedule. Probably did it to get the players back to their MLB training camps ASAP. There may be are a few exhibition games scheduled at the WBC training sites, but on a smaller scale than before. The first rounds are in Arizona (where Team USA is training) and Puerto Rico (plus Japan and Taiwan). With no early games in Florida, travel for exhibitions would be a problem. The first round begins on March 2 and the finals end on the 19th. P.S. There are six second-round games scheduled in Miami at Marlins Park between March 12 and 16. If Team USA gets out of the first round, they will be a part. If folks are already in Jupiter then, a trip down south would be doable. Here is the link to the full WBC schedule and ticket info.

RE: WBC
With Boggs and Garcia missing some ST, prospect level pitchers may get a bit more exposure in ST games. Garcia may not go of course.

RE: WBC
His shoulder probably feels fine, right now. IMO, it will act up quickly once he starts throwing for real. Doesn't really matter where. I doubt he makes it to opening day. Hope I'm wrong. He knows that shoulder surgery is uncertain and can mean the end, so I don't fault him for hoping for a miracle cure. I'm hoping too.

RE: WBC
Here are the Cards' participants: Mitchell Boggs (USA), Carlos Beltran and Yadier Molina (Puerto Rico), Fernando Salas (Mexico) and Richard Castillo (Spain). No Jaime Garcia for Mexico. Update: link to short article

Would it be hyperbole to say the Molina's are the first family of Puerto Rican baseball right now?

Re: WBC
I love that Richard Castillo is getting to participate. I always have certain players that are not top prospects that I root for and Richard Castillo is one of them.
Go Richard!!
Glad to see Jaime isn't pitching. Him pitching for Mexico was going to really frost my flakes.

Re: WBC
Anyone else bugged by the fact that anthony rizzo is playing for the italian team?I know punto did last time, and is again this time, but its different somehow. I dont know that punto could make the american team, but rizzo probably could imo.
As far as I know rizzo (obviously born here) has parents who were born here as well? What is he thinking?

I may be watching a WBC game while I'm down South. More specifically the Tuesday 1pm or 8pm game.
