I would of thought Ehlrich or Perez would be given the best defensive catcher credential. Ehlrich has this strong defensive reputation but (according to another site) supposedly Vuch said at the WWU that they like Ehlrich's bat but he has a long way to go defensively Interesting. I've read Ehrlich has the potential to be a high-end defender and currently is fundamentally sound catcher which is hard to find and just needs to round out his hitting to make it to the majors.

The Prospect Handbook is supposed to be released later this month. I don't believe they plan to disclose their team top 30's until then.

Post Dispatch released a story saying BA was going to pick the Cardinals the #1 system. Said all four scribes have them as the top minor league system.

Interesting, Sooner. Thanks for sharing. Of the six that aren't in our top 30, all but Rondon are in our 31-40 group (and the one who isn't, Rondon is #35 on my personal list).
The big difference is in the names they left off entirely. We called Anthony Garcia a top 10 player. Greg Garcia is at 16 and scored a big league camp invite as did Starlin at 17. Valera also squeaked into our top 20.
Good to see different perspectives.

Also surprised there is no Lyons. Some rankings have him top 20 and he got a ST invite as well as the brass seems to be talking him up this Winter.

Its impressive that 31 prospects can be named without including these guys. They are kind of under the national baseball guy radar, I guess. Being an 18th rounder or coming from U of Hawaii could do that I think. Hopefully, they will be more eye popping this year.

Re: Baseball America Cardinals Top 31 Prospects
MLB Network just finished their top 50 prospects show with Hart and Mayo making the picks, and 51-100 are online.
Cards got six in the top 100 (tied for most among MLB teams with Twins, Rangers, Red Sox and Marlins) but Seattle rated just a bit higher, points-wise, with their 5 guys all rating fairly highly.
Our six are:
Wacha #83 Wong #79 Rosenthal #43 Martinez #33 Miller #25 Tavares #3
Profar was #1.

RE: Baseball America Cardinals Top 31 Prospects
I think I have seen a couple rankings were Miller is down significantly from what we were seeing this time last year. I don't get that.
It also seems like Rosenthal is getting shortchanged. If Martinez really is a better prospect, I can't wait to see him.

Interesting tweet from Derrick Goold: "I can admit when I make a mistake, as I did earlier this spring to the player personally: Greg Garcia deserved a spot in Top 30."

Interesting tidbit, Brian. Thanks.
I'd love more eyeball reports on Garcia's D at SS if people have it. Looks like it might just matter quite a bit.

Re: Baseball America Cardinals Top Prospects
My thoughts from watching Garcia defensively in Springfield. He's a fundamentally sound SS with an average-to-above-average arm but lacks consistent range defensively which limits making him an average defender at best. Very steady will make all the routine plays and occasional highlight gems. Maybe with more Oquendo tutelage can help him improve defensively while his bat being more than offset. Hope one day he will get the opportunity to become that everyday shortstop the Cardinals need.
