TCN 2013 Cardinals Prospect #15: Ryan Jackson

The shortstop made his MLB debut in August but promptly disappeared. What will 2013 bring?

Apparently the Cardinal field management soured on Jackson early. I noticed a very negative tone in the St Louis media toward him shortly after he was brought to the majors. I can only guess that they had picked that up from Matheny and Co.

Basically the scribes referred to him as a non-factor even before he got on the field.

Hopefully it was only a glitch. I think he has a better chance than Kozma to get the job done.

Jackson should definitely go back to AAA for one more go-around.

I think he will show marked improvement when allowed to adjust to the league.  While I would like to add that Cuban SS prospect, Diaz, Jackson's growth can only come from allowing him to play everyday.

Then we will know what we have next year once Furcal leaves. The caveat in all this will be Greg Garcia's place since Lemmerman is the stated AA starting shortstop.

The full-season stats for Kozma and Jackson are pretty interesting too:

2012 full season stats:

.266 .328 .385 .713 in 521 PA for Jackson (18 PA at MLB)
.244 .309 .381 .690 in 633 PA for Kozma (133 PA at MLB)

Curious that the "scribes" could decide he was a "non-factor" before he set foot on the field.  What is that about?

I am curious as to why he was called up in the first place if "field managment" was sour on him.  The guy barely got to play....NEVER played his position, SS.  So how could he go from a good season in Memphis to "non-factor" status....It sure as hell wasn't his skill set.

I smell some SEROIUS BS going on in management.  Is Matheny in charge or MO? Looks to me like Mo is the next Jerry Jones....

It is possible that Jackson was judged not ready for prime time before he was ever called up, but was here only in case Kozma was a debacle.

In that case, since Kozma did well, and since Jackson was here and just sitting around, it would have been logical to put Jackson in at SS now and then in blowout situations, to see how he looked vs major league competition. That opportunity was passed up so my read is that he fell out of favor upon arrival, but of course, we don't know, since nobody is talking.

We'll see what kind of role he plays this spring, if he's still here.

You're not the only one who thinks it's a puppet show at times.

I think it's pretty obvious that Mo is in charge in most areas. I don't know what input he has into who plays.

General managers seems to have more power in baseball today. Mo was the exception when LaRussa was around. Now, Mo is flexing his muscle.

He is not the next Jerry Jones because he is not the owner.
