Oh boy! That is really sad. With the things i have seen people endure and survive this has always been hard for me to understand. What kind of emotional agony leads one to leave their loved ones behind? We may never know what triggered this young man to take such a drastic path. Very sad! My condolences to the family and loved ones. Rest in peace Mr. Freel.

That's too bad. I'd guess that his concussion's had something to do with it.

Wow! I had not realized that. They really need to step up the research on how head injuries affect a persons life long after the injury. We don't know this for sure but i would strongly suspect that this is a factor.

Truly sad, despite all the time he spent with the Reds I always had great respect for Freel, enjoyed the way he played the game with heart and hustle, solid utility guy

Looks like the family of Ryan Freel has donated part of his brain for research. They are looking for evidence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). The source is said to be the N.Y times.
