Reds working on major trade
OF Shin-Soo Choo from Indians for SS Didi Gregorius and OF Drew Stubbs. Speculation is that if this deal gets done, the Tribe will then move SS Asdrubal Cabrera. Report is from CBS' Danny Knobler.

Report is from CBS' Danny Knobler. I suppose we would have an interest in the Indians' SS?

RE: Reds working on major trade
who then plays cf for the reds? bruce? does he have the range for that? not to mention, i thought lindor would be the new tribe shortstop since i figured cabrera a goner anyway.
edit: replied before clicking link. i didnt know choo played cf. again, might not be bad for us if their defensive range at cf took a step back.
i know it was speculation connected to skippy, but i wouldn't mind us figuring out a deal with the reds for gregorius.

RE: Reds working on major trade
you could almost put choo in CF over bruce, i cannot imagine him being out there...
This deal doesnt make sense to me, choo is an FA next year and a boras client, unless choo has some cincy connection i dont know about there will be know queen city discount...
stubbs value isnt great at this point but hes worth more than one year of choo...

RE: Reds working on major trade
maybe the reds think hamilton will be ready in 2014? or that they can sign ellsbury or granderson who will be 2014 FA?
either way i like it due to limits their defensive outfield range and i wouldnt doubt if gregorius gets flipped again and up's our odds of getting him.

I hope this does not happen. Stubbs is horrible and clearly their weak link. That Walt is a smart guy.

Red getting Choo and Jason Donald; Indians getting Stubbs and Gregorius from Reds'; Indians flipping Gregorius, and adding Tony Sipp and Lars Anderson to Dbacks for Trevor Bauer, Matt Albers and Bryan Shaw.

This should end any "why doesn't Cleveland win" questions! Bauer better be the bomb cause the Indians just got lit up once again. I still say we should not give up on the Asdrubal thing. Tribe got lucky on the Perez trade if you consider having a closer that calls out the entire fan base getting lucky but most of their trades are awful.

Ken Rosenthal also notes that the Indians are sending the Reds approximately $3.5 million to account for differences in salaries between Choo and Stubbs.

The Indians have actually been on the plus side of one of the most one sided trades in baseball history. In 2002 the Indians sent Bartolo Colon to the Expos for Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips, Grady Sizemore and Lee Stevens. The Indians of course gave up on Phillips and Sizemore ran into serious injury problems. But a handful of great seasons out of Lee and 4 MVP caliber seasons out of Sizemore for a guy the expos rented make that one lopsided trade.

RE: Reds working on major trade
And despite that awful trade, the Mets later hired Omar Minaya to be their GM, too.

Actually the only team that made any sense in that deal was the Reds. I am shocked that the D-Backs gave up on Bauer this quickly. He was 12-2 with a 2.42 ERA and 157 K in 130 1/3 innings in the minor leagues in 2012. And that includes a 2.85 ERA in 14 starts in the hitters haven PCL.

Re: Reds working on major trade
Uh....the Indians (who won't compete next year) got MUCH better. 1 year of Choo for 6 years of Bauer?
That's a great deal for them.

That's a great deal for them. No kidding. He needs to harness his control, but he most certainly has top of the rotation stuff and an interesting approach.
