RE: Continued 2013 Cardinal Nation Community Prospect Voting Thr

I'll vote for Dean Kiekhefer.

Lefty reliever is a premium position. Looks pretty good so far. Seems to have mastered control. 4 walks in 60 innings kept his WHIP down. Gives up a hit an inning.

I don't know what to think about Rahmatulla's offensive nosedive at Palm Beach. With a .180 BABIP he must have been rolling them out there.

It's insane that Tommy Pham still hasn't been voted. I'm staying with him.

Re: Continued 2013 Cardinal Nation Community Prospect Voting

Jacob Wilson, bats/throws r, 2B/3B, 2012 10th rounder, college senior (Memphis).

Line senior year .320/.394/.615/1.009

2011 College Summer League line (Asheville) .305/.358/.467/.825

At Batavia lit up LHP .351/.429/.514/.943.

Had trouble vs RHP early, then figured it out.  His overall line for August/September .333/.378/.627/1.005

Some say he isn't athletic enough to stick at 2B (same thing said about Ugla).

Iffy tools but can really square up the ball.  Makeup top shelf.

Ceiling IMO:  if we are lucky he turns into the Matt Adams of 2B/3B. wink

Kiekhefer @ 55

To follow up on Bling's comments about the really low walk rate that kept his WHIP down even though he gave up a hit an inning, Kiekhefer actually induces a lot of groundballs so the hits should diminish as he advances with better defenses behind him.

RE: Continued 2013 Cardinal Nation Community Prospect Voting Thr

picks i dont get:
-kiekhefer: soft tosser and not even 2nd best reliever from PB. lucas and nazario are better
-rahmatulla: couldnt hit a ball with a rowing oar in A+
-pham: 1 good yr out of 6

i can buy into jacob wilson though. he's very similar to patrick wisdom

others that really should be thought of before the people getting legs currently:
-kurt heyer
-kyle barraclough
-sam gaviglio
-cody stanley
-sam tuivailala
-justin wright

Hector Hernandez is having a good winter league, is a promising lefty and still young. He should have probably been up on the board already. He also was invited to Instructional League. Others: Anthony Melchionda jumped to full season QC and did well there; Jacob Wilson did come on really strong the second half of the NY-Penn season; Matthew Young has the baseball tools and improved as the season came along; Matt Williams, QC's SS did pretty well; Sam Tuivailala converted to pitching drew some raves from scouts with his "live arm" and 98 MPH fastball. These are just a few. Also, as relievers go, Aiden Lucas and Iden Nazario at PB did a nice job.

big difference between figuring out how to be a soft tosser at the MLB level and the A+ level.

anyway, should cerda or voss get any consideration for being included like komatsu last yr? i have zero idea what their prospect status was like on their original teams. though i guess voss out for 2013?

Pham has more natural talent than anyone left still or that you mentioned.  He was putting it together when freak accidents started to set in.  If you remember Spring from a few years ago he was the best hitter in the Minors during that time period.  He had his eye surgery so that should help his hitting signficantly he still has great range in the OF great speed, we just don't know about his arm anymore.

Your right I totally forgot about Hernandez.  He was outstanding at QC for mostof this year.

RE: Pham....

i dont care how much natural talent that some media outlet or whoever else claims he has, if he can't turn that potential into production. 1 yr out of 6 he actually produced. and it wasn't freak injuries that cratered all those 5 non productive seasons. another factor was couldn't hit.

whether its freak injuries, being abducted by aliens, takes a yr off to fight crime as a caped hero, or some other reason, i dont care what the reason was for 5 out of 6 unproductive yrs. to me, at this point, he is a non prospect. would i love for him to prove me wrong and finally measure up? of course. but until he actually does that, i figure it will be something else that will make it 6 out of 7 yrs of not being able to produce.
