Ken Rosenthal reports that both the Cardinals and the Yankees are pursuing Marco Scutaro. Scutaro would be an interesting acquisition, but I wouldn't want to overpay for him since he is almost 36. The Giants have made re-signing Scutaro a top priority.

Scutaro is 37.

I bet Scutaro stays with the Giants.

Bidding on Marco Scutaro said to have reached something in the range of 3 years, $24 million; SF viewed as frontrunner by source involved. (Buster Olney)

That's $8 million a year, for those without calculators at home. PASS.

Yeah, Mo isn't going to touch that.

Back to Stephen Drew.

8 Mill a year for a second baseman? No way Moz does this. I didn't think of this as a real option anyway.

8mil a year for 3 years for a 37 year old 2B....somebody is not in the right frame of mind.

I just saw that report too. Good for Marco. He managed to turn 3 great months of baseball into a Giant payday. I liked him on a 1 year deal, a 3 year deal strikes me as  just crazy/desperate/sentimental for his great postseason.

They're the world champs. So they have a clue. However I doubt he starting in 2 years.

That was my thought. It looks like Scutaro is leveraging his nice World Series into what would seem to be a higher-than-real-value agreement.

Re: Cards meet with IF Marco Scutaro's agent

if it's 3/24 for Scutaro...no way we are in...

2yrs...i think we would look harder... Scutaro plays 2b and helps with SS depth if Furcal goes down...he is a contact hitter which i think woudl work well with the thump the lineup has already... in 2014 he coudl shift to SS and Wong to 2b... that woudl give us 2 solid years to find another SS in the draft or elsewhere outside or inside the system...

if Skip is drawing interest from the Dodgers...i say go afetr Dee Gordon.. Skip + a pitchign prospect woudl be fine with me (as long as it isnt a crazy high level prospect)...Dee Gordon has his woes...but he is still very young and Oquendo has proved he can make infielders get better...Dee has speed which cant be taught..and if he is a true buy low candidate...as a backup SS for the infield i think he offers a lot not to mention SB speed off the bench woudl be a nice option to have

still i woudlnt be angry if we signed Scutaro...as long as we still got lhrp help...

id go after Sean Burnett, work a trade for Gordon, sign Reed Johnson also try to get Lannan and or Gorzellany...and see if we can get Jesus Flores on a minor league deal for a bit more depth at C

not too flashy of signing but seems to be what we need

i do worry about our rotation with big ?'s with Garcia and Carpenter...not to mentionn the age of Westy...Miller and Lynn seem the viable 4 and 5...Lannan could be a nice option too

Holy Moly! I think Scutaro is a really nice player but man that's a lot for a 37 year old 2nd baseman. Looks like the G-men will be returning most of their team next year.
