These Redbird B-Days are a great idea, Brian! Now if we can only get one of the Cardinal Nation crack reporters to do a weekly "Where Are They Now" feature on Cardinal players from yesteryear, then we'd be set. I really miss baseball as these nightly NBA games just don't do the trick. Matter of fact I'm so bored that I'm going to call the action some time this evening on a fictional, but exciting Cards-cubs game.....if Brian & Co. don't stop me.

A.  It was Valdes according to the 2010 offseason roster matrix.

B.  Must be a slow Cards birthday day.

Just saw that Valdes pitched very well on his birthday tonight, going 6 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 4 K for the win in the Dominican Winter League.

I can't help it if February was not a big month for conception of future Cardinals! I just report what I can find... ;-)

I kind of expected JMo to offer some anecdotes to liven up this thread...

Well, you could have mentioned Joe Orengo, Marty Marion's DP partner in 1940. d.o.b 11-29-14

Look at the exemplary posture of this Orengo chap. It seems that almost all the players from 60+ years ago had this wonderful trait, unlike players of today who are built on weight room generated strength and various performance enhancing rubs and ingestions. Here may lie the discrepancies in the frequency of injury between the generations. Want to groom a young player in a way that he won't break down with frequent injury as an adult? Send him to Mrs. Mulligan's Class of Etiquette instead of the weight room. Actually, a combination of the two might just be the ticket as long as they don't pump too much iron.

12/4: David Green (52), Lee Smith (55), Ray Sanders (died 1983).

Wondering if Smith will ever make the Hall and how old Green really is... The start of December was clearly a big week for the Cardinals' Sanders...
